SA Tune Performance, clears unwanted registry files, safe?

Hi all,

I have always heard and read that registry cleaner programs or apps are unnecessary and even potentially dangerous.  It's been a while since I bought a new Dell and noticed this month old Insprion 5515 comes with SA (SupportAssist) that has a Tune Performance feature. When you hover over it, it says among other things it "clears unwanted registry files".  Is it really safe to use? I would imagine if it came on the Dell and was made by Dell, it should be totally safe as compared to third party software but wanted to ask the board about this. I note that if you run it, in History it typically says 4 registry files were cleared and by immediately running it again, 4 files are cleared again which seems odd - as if just viewing History adds registry files?

Yes it's safe. It's Dell. Supportassist is a tool which millions of users are using on their Dell computer.

Though registry cleaning doesn't help a computer's Performance. However third party tools have used the terms "REGISTRY CLEANER" so much in past 2 decades that even reputed brands like Dell have started using them in their tools.

There are hundred of thousands registries in windows and 100s being created or edited every minutes, so it's pointless to clear the unused ones, as there will be more next minutes.

You can disable automated scans from support assist from Settings (gears) from top right and choose every tile as you wanna use them

For me I do not use Run All feature. Main Advantage of SupportAssist is automated driver updates, and hardware scans (first 2 tiles)
