SA OS Recovery Tools, will not install

The post is regarding SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, not the SuppotAssist Plug-in. I also would like to find a way to download and install the suggested update Support Assist OS Recovery Tools, version 4.4.2.9869.

I got the mentioned update (SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v4.4.2.9869) recommended in the Dell Update Application. It downloaded but did not install on the first run.

On a second try I started Dell Update App as administrator (I already had administrator privilegies on the first try) and it installed with no problems.

The Dell SupportAssist Application did not find this update. I also did not find it on the Dell support site under drivers and downloads.

The Dell Update Application can be downloaded here.

Support Assist works fine with clean non malware infected machine.

Should be installed as administrator after downloading DIRECTLY FROM DELL.

Windows 10 is required.

Not all machines for all time are supported.

SupportAssist is not available on Linux, Windows RT, Android, Ubuntu or Chrome based products.

You MUST USE usb 2.0 drive to install windows 10.

"Error: A required CD/DVD device driver is missing - when you start Windows setup disk"  Applies to windows VISTA / 7 / 8 / 10.

That is a specific Issue.  You must use F6 mass storage Drivers or windows will refuse to install because it can't see any hard drives.  You must install GPT and UEFI.  MBR and Legacy booting and install are no longer an option EVER AGAIN.

This error can occur if one or more of the following scenarios are true:

  • The CD/DVD drive may not be compatible with Windows
  • The CD/DVD media may be damaged or dirty or burned faster than 1X 2X or 4X max.
  • Your CD/DVD drive  and hard drive may be incompatible with the Microsoft AHCI driver (msahci.sys)
  • You are trying to install the OS with USB3 flash drive or DVD drive.I use specific USB 2.0 blue ray drive with Commercial WINDOWS 10 OEM System Builder DVD version 1809.

Wolfgang;

I had the same problem that you describe with a SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools update offered up by Alienware Update.  I believe (but did not double check) that my normal Windows 10 user account has administrator privileges, but my first attempt at installing this update failed like yours did.  Running Alienware Update explicitly as an administrator worked!

I normally run the Alienware Update first since it seems to catch updates more often than the SupportAssist's "Get Drivers & Downloads" functionality.

Your solution was a very simple way to solve this particular issue.  Thank you!
