SA OS Recovery Plugin, BSOD

Help.

XPS13 Plus laptop bought in Aug 2023. It is fully UpToDate running Win 11 and is updated with Dell updates regularly.

Every time I install 'Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update' my computer crashes with the BSOD.

Running Windows De-Bug on the minidump file shows that it is the SupportAssist software that is causing the crash.

This software has had the same result on my computer on each of the occasions it has been installed on my machine by Dell Update.

When is it either going to be fixed of removed from the Dell Update as it does not work on my computer ?

Thanks

Hi AndyGibbsUK:

What is the full name of your Dell computer model (e.g., XPS 13 Plus 9320), the version and OS build number of your Win 11 OS [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver] and BIOS version?  To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary.

Please go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features, search for "dell", and post an image showing the names and version numbers of your installed Dell software.

The Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update (currently v5.5.13.1 for most Dell computer models) works together with Dell Update v5.x *** to keep your systems recovery environment up to date with the latest version of Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery (also known as Dell SupportAssist Remediation or System Repair).  Your problem might be related to the issue described in ybmo's 21-Jan-2025 Support Assist Remediation is Causing BSOD on Windows 10 and Windows 11 Computer but ymbo never replied back to tell us what Dell software versions they had or whether they ever found a solution for their BSODs.

As a first troubleshooting step I'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the latest SupportAssist v4.6.3 (released 24-Dec-2024) as instructed in Dell employee DELL-Nat- M's 08-Jul-2024 post <here> and then see if that stops your BSODs.
--------------------------------

*** NOTE: Most editions of Dell Update v5.x reached end of support on 31-Dec-2024 [see Alienware Update and Dell Update End of Life (EoL) Announcement] but for now my Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 still seems to run correctly on my Inspiron 5584 per my 02-Jan-2025 post <here>. I'm not certain, but AFAIK the standalone Dell | Command Update v5.4.0 application and Dell Command | Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 (the UWP edition) recommended for many Dell OptiPlex, Latitude, Precision and XPS models are not included in the EoL announcement.  If the edition of Dell Update you use has reached end of support you should see a warning at launch like the one shown <here>.
-----------
Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.5487 * Firefox v135.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.24090.11-1.1.24090.11 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.2.6.163-1.0.5146 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 * My Dell v2.2.6.0 * Fusion Service 2.2.14.0

@lmacri

I get no issues with the version of Win 11 that I am running.

I reverted back to Dell Power Manager as it allows me to adjust the advanced power elements that I want to use depending on the place I am working in. If I am working from home I utilize advanced charge and peak shift when the laptop is sat on a dock all day.

I did not think that the AI version was giving me what I wanted out of my battery.

Thanks for the advice above.

I will see where that leads me once I have read it all.
