SA, configure to NOT empty the recycle bin?
The settings page for SupportAssist is woefully short on options. SA reclaims space by getting rid of what the app deems to be useless programs (install files, etc.). But the idea behind the recycle bin is that you can restore a deleted file if at a later time you realize you shouldn't have deleted it. I don't want to go in there to discover it empty. If I want to delete something permanently I'll just shift delete and skip the recycle bin. I want to use SA, but this functionality has already burned me once and I'd like not to have it happen again. Any suggestions?

Hi tenor20,
Really appreciated as you are actively using SupportAssist and providing feedback to us.
We have noted down this concern as new product enhancement and this will going to be delivery with new release of SupportAssist.

has a solution to this been found? until I can turn that off, can't use SA. I need to know my recycle bin is there if I need it.

I agree. I use the Recycle Bin to hold stuff until I REALLY want it gone. How about it Dell?

I totally agree. As an IT admin I was also shocked that Dell SupportAssist emptied my Recycle Bin. This SHOULD NOT happen, or there should be an option to turn it on--BUT SHOULD BE OFF BY DEFAULT!

This is a terrible design for the application works. And it's worse because not only is it the default behavior, it is the only behavior. They have known about this issue for a while, the developers response is that it's "best practice".
Seriously? An application that is promoted to update your drivers, that will delete your recycle bin without warning, because of a developers opinion on best practices that are completely out of line with how a recycle bin is promoted to be used.
What other things are your developers holding you to ransom on, Dell social media representatives and management?

I definitely agree that Clean Files should not include emptying the Recycle Bin, unless you specifically indicate it. I've been burned by this, also, and now I go to Settings (under the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner)>Schedule Scans and Optimizations, uncheck the box for "Turn on automatic system scans and optimizations" and then save this setting.
As a result, the Recycle Bin is not emptied. But, there's a caveat: at each installation of a new version, the box becomes checked, even though in the older version it was unchecked. So, be warned -- when a new version installs, always check Settings>Schedule Scans and Optimizations to uncheck the box for "Turn on automatic system scans and optimizations" again and save this setting.
SA seems to have a mind of its own in this regard. You have to be vigilant to be sure the box remains unchecked.

Hi NikhilKiroula:
In addition to changing the manual Clean Files scan so it doesn't empty the Recycle Bin, I'd also like to see "Never" included as an option for the scheduled scan frequencies along with "Weekly" and "Monthly". That way users could disable scheduled System Optimizations scans (Clean Files / Tune Performance / Optimize Network) while still allowing their Drivers & Downloads and Hardware scan to run on a weekly or monthly schedule. These scheduled System Optimizations scans do much more than just cleaning the Recycle Bin and are too aggressive for many users.
