Please check the following to see if it's related. https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist/SupportAssist-Hardware-scan-stuck-at-0-v3-1-0-142/td-p/7244999 Is the Dell Hardware Support service running?

Hi Joe,

I am also having problems with SupportAssist.

For the longest time it would not let me update claiming some unspecified error.  Also, I would get Event Messages claiming SupportAssist could not write to certain Dell folders.

FYI I have 1809 updates including March 12, 2019 patch tuesday..

Tonight I came across a link that installed but left me in a bit of a mess:

https://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/supportassist

After the installation: I have the normal support assist services Vault collector, Vault Service Api, Vault Processor, Dell Digital Delivery Service, Dell hardware support,  Dell Help&Support, Dell SupportAssist.

I have no Support Assist UI - i.e. under Start/Dell I have Dell Audio, Digital Delivery, Help&Support, and Dell Power Manager Lite - that's it.

Under Control Panel / Programs & Features I have :Dell Digital Delivery 3.5.2000.0 (2.51MB), **bleep** Help&Supt 2.6.1.0 (58.4MB) and Dell SupportAssist 3.1.0.142 (149MB).  That's it for Dell stuff (other than SmartByte, Quickset, and ProductRegistration).

Question 1: is UI supposed to be gone in the new UI?  If not how do I get it back?

Question 2: should I install Dell Update?

Question 3: should I re-install Dell Foundation Services from the Dell Support site? i.e.

Question 4:  Because of years of problems with Supportassist and Dell update and related services, I have been tempted to uninstall all Dell stuff, delete the relevant folders, and re-install everything but I am concerned that I will miss some stuff (not on the web site e.g. product registration) and I will get obsolete stuff from Foundation services.  Any thoughts on how to safely get a completely pristine setup of ALL Dell apps and svcs short of formatting the disk?

BTW I have also seen your posts in https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist/Dell-Support-Assist-latest-version-not-working/td-p/7238172    so if that is what you recommend, I can give it a shot.  A bit concerned about the MSoft cleanup tool to which you refer.

Thanks very much Joe.
