prevent reboots
Support Assist today decided to reboot my machine without my permission while I was working on something. It said it was for software updates. This is not acceptable behavior, and I would like to know how to prevent it from ever doing that again. I'll uninstall it if necessary, but I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere that will do the trick.

Hi snowsuit_scrubber
Links to the SupportAssist v4.x user guide and release notes are available at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs.
See the section titled Schedule Updates, Scans, and Optimizations in the user guide for instructions on how to disable automatic background tasks like automatic installation of software updates.
FYI, I no longer have SupportAssist installed on my Inspiron 5584, but when I did use this utility I disabled all automatic background tasks in the settings and only ran update checks and hardware diagnostics manually from the Home tab. I never allowed SupportAssist to run "system optimization" scans (Clean Files / Tune Performance / Optimize Network) because I felt they were too aggressive and had the potential to do more harm than good. For example, see my 12-Jul-2021 comment in ex-jedi's Prevent Automatic Recycle Bin Emptying about the registry cleaner included with the Tune Performance (now called Boost Performance) optimization scan of SupportAssist.
