New SupportAssist v4.x (Nov 2024) Requires .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.x
I don't have SupportAssist installed on my Inspiron 5584, but I just noticed that release notes for a new version SupportAssist v4 (released 06-Nov-2024) have been posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs. The minimum system requirements <here> state that this new version requires Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime version 8.0.x ***.
Here's hoping this new version fixes some of the bugs described in employee DELL-Chris M's 10-Jun-2024 topic SupportAssist, "Hardware scan fails", "We ran into a problem". If I recall correctly, the SupportAssist v4.0.3 discussed in DELL-Chris M's topic required Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime version 6.0.x , and that v6.0.x Runtime reaches end-of-support tomorrow on 12-Nov-2024.

Hi @DELL-Nat M :
What is the correct version number of the new SupportAssist v4.x that requires NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.x?
The version number documented <here> in the latest SupportAssist v4 release notes (posted 06-Nov-2024) state that this new version will be Version 4.6.1, but that seems like a big jump from the current Version 4.0.3.
Will Version 4.6.1 be the version of the new installer? Note: The direct download link at https://downloads.dell.com/serviceability/catalog/SupportAssistInstaller.exe is currently offering SupportAssistInstaller.exe v4.6.0.16649.
SupportAssist normally lists two separate components at Setting | Apps | Apps & Features - the main application named "Dell SupportAssist" (with the same application version listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features) as well as small "helper" APPx module named "SupportAssist" that contains files and credentials required to install and run the main application (see my post in AnotherJamieRI's "Dell SupportAssist" vs "SupportAssist" vs "Dell Update" vs "Dell Update for Windows Universal"). Could the Version 4.6.1 listed in the new release notes be the version number of the new SupportAssist APPx module?

Hello,
I completely uninstalled SA 4.03, installed .NET 8.0 and tried to run the new installer SA 4.6 from the link. Still it installs SA 4.03
How can I get the SA 4.6? I’m on windows 11 23H2.

Hi greg_pap:
You might have tried one day too soon.
If you want to test the latest SupportAssist v4.6.2 I'd suggest you uninstall v4.0.3 and try the download link at Explore SupportAssist for Home PCs that @DELL-Nat M provided in their 04-Dec-2024 post in Stanan's Support Assist Hangs. The required Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x ** should be installed by that SupportAssist installer (SupportAssistInstaller.exe) if it is currently missing from your system.
Just an FYI, though, that SupportAssist v4.6.2 is not working correctly for everyone. For example, see Rockface's 03-Dc-2024 topic supportassist issue.

** NOTE: As I stated <here> in Rockface's topic, the "base" Microsoft .NET Runtime v8.0.x (for console apps) and Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x (for desktop apps like SupportAssist v4.x; includes the"base" .NET Runtime v8.0.x plus additional files) are listed as different products at https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0/runtime.
From my Win 10 machine, which has Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x ** installed:
