Need to Replace Hard drive for Inspiron 7415 and Disk Cloning did not work, Other Options?

Inspiron 7415 2-in-1
Hi, I got an error code to replace my hard drive for my Inspiron 7415 2-in-1 laptop. I am trying to use SupportAssist OS Recovery to clone the data on my hard drive to a USB external HDD but I keep getting an error message just before the cloning ends.
My Question: What is the preferred alternative method to save my data on the USB external HDD to put on the new internal hard drive replacement using Dell Support Assist Recovery?

For cloning, many users have successful cloned using Macrium Reflect Free Edition.
For data backup, a simple direct copy of data files to external HDD be the easiest. Alternatively, Windows users can use the built-in tool, Windows Backup.

Hi
As it is almost a "completed" clone that fails, perhaps consider copying large chunks of data over?
@Chino de Oro suggests Windows BackUp, which is an excellent starting point, and I would like to add this possibility...
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/xcopy
if you can only get to a dos prompt / CLI screen.
Sometimes when you buy a new storage device, the manufacturer offers copy/clone software on their website.
Would the data be encrypted and need a BitLocker key?

If in doubt please ask.

@Chino de Oro Thanks for the response. Macrium Reflect Free is no longer available so I resorted to Dell Support Assist OS Recovery. It worked but not fast at all which is what I wanted.

@anne_droid Thanks for the detailed response. I ended up using the Dell Support Assist OS Recovery. It worked but it was a painfully slow process.
I wish Dell would fix the cloning option.
