m17 R3, 10 Out Of 10 OS Recovery Never Installs

I keep getting this error on Support Assist. Uninstalled and Reinstalled with new driver from the dell driver website, and still botched.... This is the error i get every time i open the app and click "Let's Go" for the OS Recovery feature.

We couldn't finish installing OS Recovery
Something went wrong while we were trying to install OS Recovery. Don't worry, we'll keep trying to install the application in the background, and then we'll let you know once we've finished.

[Got it]

The only choice i get after is to click "Got it" and nothing happens or improves, and so i am afraid to run updates because my OS was re-installed from the online tech support on the phone for over 5 hours and then i had to reinstall all my stuff back on the machine. Not pleased, been a constant issue ever since their on call remote people put their grubby fingers into this mess. So any help out there? I frankly have given up all hope for the time i have had this machine. I will admit it's better than my Asus ROG that melted down... It actually runs. But i have software issues instead... Losing all hope in high end machines, if all i get is turds... For the price you pay, i expected something better.

Hi @Skulljeep welcome to this user to user discussion forum. Dell Support do not usually interact within community forums.

Recently had this identical SupportAssist false notification problem on Alienware laptop. Used Revo Uninstaller Free to remove SupportAssist, and then Revo advanced scan to remove all the multiple files, folders, and/or Registry entries left on the system.

Never use SupportAssist to install anything over the internet, especially BIOS updates. Always manually download BIOS update file, use file check sum value to confirm integrity of download file, then install Dell update and Restart (not Shut Down). Remember that Dell BIOS updates are not required, if they do not provide additional features that you need or an application says it requires.

Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

@crimsom Seeing as I am not tech savvy to do this on my own, I used the trusted platform to do it for me, because I am not a computer guru.

I purchased a product that came with a service for a reason, holding the brand accountable for their inability to properly make functional software is something that needs to take place.

I did manage to uninstall and reinstall the software, and then proceeded to never use it for quite some time, and let windows run some updates. At that point things started to work again as designed. Currently, there are multiple other propriety software they cram into these machines that are absolutely awful, and I have stopped using them entirely. I mainly game and do my taxes on the laptop. So i gave up on many of the other functions it could be used for due to the brands inability to make it function well without messing up something else along the way.

The only reason I still have the machine is because it does not go full nuclear like an ASUS ROG motherboard did when I owned one. However, that does not excuse the fact about the amount of bloat ware that is in the machine that serves no purpose, but you have to retain in order to use other features or options. I'm rather fed up with the machine, and since my return window is long past due, I have only kept it to suffer through it's use until I can find a better replacement.
