lot of backup files saved

In my laptop, nearly 40 GB files are saved in following folder

C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\Snapshots\Backup

What is the purpose of these files and can I delete it ?

Hi

They are repair/recovery files for when an update goes wrong, so the system may be able to roll back to an earlier configuration.

They serve a purpose, however if you have dates on them, it may be acceptable to remove the oldest dated one.

@22kiran ,

Welcome to the Dell Forums.

If you perform regular full system images using a reputable backup program, you don't need those files at all, and they do keep growing in size and number.

My advice: Uninstall SupportAssist completely, if your computer is no longer under warranty.  After it is uninstalled, look for the junk it leaves behind and delete it.  You can manually check for updates on the Dell support site, using your service tag, which is what I do every week.

SupportAssist is just too much of a resource hog and it is unreliable and trouble-prone.

This is just MY opinion.  I do not work for, nor do I represent, Dell.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Phil

Hi 22kiran:

Those Dell system repair points (snapshots) are created by a program called Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery v5.5.x.  You will find this program listed as Dell SupportAssist Remediation at Settings | Apps and/or Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.

Please see my 28-Jul-2025 post in Adasha's How can I delete the backups created by dell? for instructions on how to purge the snapshots in the hidden, protected  folder at C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\Snapshots.
