Latest SupportAssist v4.10.1 - We can't reach the internet right now
Another curve ball by Dell's SupportAssist wonderful programming team, after updating the software it claims it can't connect to the internet anymore, not just "right now", never.
Ironically I might just use the web page from now on since the support webpage can use the agent to scan for updates and do exactly what SupportAssist claims it can't do "right now".
Typical Dell, broken products, following the trend.
Oh, and to be clear: I completely uninstalled SupportAssist and all of its dependencies, rebooted and reinstalled fresh - same result.

Dell preemptively marked a future fix as the solution, without having released the fix that is the supposed solution. I think I'm going top mark this comment of mine as the solution, which is that there is none at this point.

@DELL-Cares I also have been experiencing the same problem.
I uninstall SupportAssist and it's dependencies, clear any residual folders, restart and go to the Dell drivers and downloads website where it prompts me to reinstall the latest SupportAssist to be able to check for drivers. Then it downloads and installs the same 2 drivers (Goodix fingerprint driver and some Chipset driver) and then the next day the support assist can't reach the internet any more. Might I add this started happening after the latest Windows update last months, if that helps. (Windows 10)
Thank you.

Hi ner0:
If you connect to your modem/router via an Ethernet cable instead of WiFi see Master VB Guru's 09-Oct-2025 topic Dell SupportAssist 4.10.0 Bug When Connected via Ethernet.

@lmacri Thanks for pointing that out. I'm trying to figure out a way to downgrade to SupportAssist v4.8.2 but I don't know where to get the offline installer for that particular version.

@DELL-Cares The issue has been made clear, here, and also here
Last year your support software was deleting private data from everyone' system as part as its "Cleanup" task... just stop making people walk in circles. Fix it.
Also, why <Prohibited word or character substitution used. See the Forum Code of Conduct. DELL-Admin> are you redirecting me to Reddit?

@DELL-Cares Why are you redirecting me to a third-party site (Reddit)?

I received the same Email response from Dell — contact Tech Support. When I did, they told me that I needed to take my Precision M7510 and M7520 laptops to “a local repair shop”, rather than entertain the possibility that this might be a software issue (which it is).
Fortunately, I’ve saved older versions of SupportAssist, so I uninstalled 4.10.1 and installed 4.8.2. It has absolutely no problem reaching the internet.
Even after sharing this with Dell, they continue to tell me to take my laptop to a local repair shop.
Until and unless Dell admits that 4.10.1 is broken, it will never get fixed.

Does this have anything to do with staying on Win 10?

@D4rtz Each time a new version of Dell SupportAssist comes out, I save the installation executable to a folder on my external hard drive. That's the only way I was able to roll back to 4.8.2 (which works).
I searched Dell's website, and, unfortunately, I could not find any page that has prior versions of the software.
The only work-around is to go to Dell's support page on their website and run the update process from there. That at least works.

@UnimpressedZ Not sure as I don't run Windows 11. Given the number of Windows 10 users that have no interest in upgrading to Windows 11 (i.e. enrolled in ESUs), Dell better get this fixed.

Hi ner0:
Unfortunately, both download links I tried today (i.e., the SupportAssist for Home PCs download page <here> and the direct download link at https://downloads.dell.com/serviceability/catalog/SupportAssistinstaller.exe) are currently offering SupportAssistInstaller.exe v4.10.1.42635.
Has the service warranty for your Dell computer expired yet? If not, contact Dell customer support directly by clicking the blue Get Help Now button located in the bottom-right corner of each page of this forum to start a Live Chat and ask them for a download link to the previous v4.8.2 installer. After you type in a brief summary of your problem the automated Dell-Cares chat bot will ask for your email address and the unique Service Tag of your Dell computer. Once it confirms you still have a valid service warranty it should connect you to a live customer service rep.
I'm not sure how much a rollback to v4.8.2 would help you, though. AFAIK SupportAssist runs an automatic self-check for an available SupportAssist update each time the program is launched, so if Dell doesn't pull the buggy v4.10.1 installer from their download servers (or slow down the v4.10.1 rollout) you will eventually be bumped back up to v4.10.1 without your consent anyway.
I don't know if this is relevant, but if your default browser is a Chromium-based browser like Google Chrome v141 or MS Edge v141 be sure you read the 07-Oct-2025 Dell support article Dell Online Support Experience Impacted Due to Local Network Access Restrictions. If you use an Insider Preview build of Win 11 v24H2 or v25H2 also note that Microsoft is aware of a bug in recent Beta/Dev channel builds that causes multiple programs to crash - see Malwarebytes employee Reid's 10-Oct-2025 post in Maynard4325's Stopping most programs from opening in the Malwarebytes forum.
_______________________________
FYI, I removed all SupportAssist-related programs from my Inspiron 5584 after my service warranty expired because they were too buggy and consumed too much RAM, CPU and other system resources. I also found the "system optimization" scans in SupportAssist (Clean Files / Tune Performance / Optimize Network) were too aggressive and had the potential to do more harm than good. See my 08-Feb-2025 post in ygil's BSOD Issues After Windows Updates for further details on the steps I took to replace the functionality of these buggy programs.
It would be helpful if anyone who sees this "We can't reach the internet right now..." bug when launching SupportAssist v4.10.1 would post back and let us know your Dell computer model, Windows operating system [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver to find the version and OS build number], antivirus, default browser, and BIOS version. To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary.

@UnimpressedZ Strange, the web scan works fine for me through https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=drivers but SupportAssist must be installed, even if you don't or can't use it directly.
