Hi blue_mj:

You've posted your question in the SupportAssist for PCs board rather than the Inspiron board. Did your keyboard stop working after SupportAssist or Windows Update installed new software or drivers on your Inspiron 3442?

Do the hardware diagnostics in SupportAssist (Troubleshooting | I Want to Troubleshoot My PC | I Want to Check a Specific Piece of Hardware | Other Devices | Keyboard) or Windows 7 (Control Panel | System and Security | Find and Fix Problems | Hardware and Sound - see the wikiHow article How to Troubleshoot Windows 7 for more information on the built-in Windows troubleshooters) report any problems with your keyboard?

Do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit Win 7 OS? Assuming you have a 64-bit Win 7 OS, are the latest Win 7-compatible Dell Inspiron 3442/3542/5748 System BIOS A16 (rel. 24-Sep-2020) and Dell Touchpad Driver v19.2.17.70 (rel.20-Nov-2018) listed on the support page for the Inspiron 3442 at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/inspiron-14-3442-laptop/drivers installed on your system? To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field.

This might not be related to your keyboard problem, but do you have Win 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and is your OS patched to the end of extended support (14-Jan-2020)? Just note that if you have not installed the KB4474419 update (rel. 23-Sep-2019) that adds support for SHA-2 code signing of digital certificates to Win 7 SP1 then some software might not install correctly on your machine.  See the MS support article 2019 SHA-2 Code Signing Support Requirement for Windows and WSUS for more information.

If you aren't sure if KB4474419 is installed, search your installed updates at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features | View Installed Updates. Search for the complete string "KB4474419" (without the quote marks) and not a partial string like "4474419". See AdvancedSetup's installation instructions in the Malwarebytes forum thread Now MBAM Wants a Microsoft Security Update if KB4474419 is missing.
