Inspiron 3780, how to configure support assist
I have a new Dell 3780 Laptop (Win 10 Pro i7). I would like to know if I can configure Dell SupportAssist to run ONLY the hardware diagnostic tests during scheduled runs. I DO NOT want the program to automatically remove/alter any files, programs, settings, or rarely used hardware.

The Support assist application can remove any redundant files, temporary folders, or other unnecessary clutter from your system.
That is when you run Clean Files tile/task.
You can choose to only run the hardware tile for hardware checkup, and install the necessary drivers from the support site.
Support site link: https://dell.to/36XlJAc
Also, even though you run the tile which says check for drivers, it will not automatically update any drivers.
It will show you the Urgent and Recommend drivers to be installed.
You can then choose what to install from the support site.
Thanks,

Here is the online SA (SupportAssist) User's Guide. You should read through it to find out if such a "customization" of its process is available and what configurations it does offer.

SupportAssist application won't delete any files or folders. It just optimizes and removes temporary files from your system.
SupportAssist will only run hardware scans and driver updates on your system.

I am asking how to run the current SupportAssist software in such a manner that it will not automatically modify or delete any files, folders, or software that the program may deem to be unwanted. I only want the SupportAssist to run hardware diagnostics. If this cannot be done then I won't consider SupportAssist and will remove it.

The SupportAssist document does state that it will remove certain files.
I also am very skeptical about updating drivers if everything is working fine. Several years ago there was a Nvidia driver update that caused Adobe Premier Elements to produce a half screen black display --which made it extremely difficult to edit video. Nvidia refused acknowledge that their driver caused the problem, and Adobe refused to issue an update to 10 month old software. The only solution was to roll back any driver update, and to diligently prevent any further driver updates.
