Inspiron 3020, SA OS Recovery Tools install fails

Inspiron 3020 Desktop

Inspiron 3020 Desktop

Got notification of latest package for this product set of 5.5.7.18773. Have tried to install twice last time following a reboot of the device. It just says failed with no other real useful information. Thanks in advance for any advice.

slpitt,

To receive assistance from Dell support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting.

Hi slpitt:

If your service warranty has expired and Dell Customer Support will not provide assistance then let us know your Windows OS (if Win 10 or Win 11 please include the version and build shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications), your antivirus and default browser, and your current version of Dell SupportAssist and Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools.  Your current  Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools version can be found at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features - it will be listed there as Dell SupportAssist Remediation.

If you can't open a support ticket with Dell, try installing and running the Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.9.0 app (Dell-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_34YNX_WIN_4.9.0_A02_02.EXE, rel. 09-May-2023) that is listed on the support page for your Inspiron 3020 Desktop at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/inspiron-3020-desktop/drivers. If Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.9.0 also fails to install Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.7.18773 then the problem might be with the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools installer, and not SupportAssist.

I permanently uninstalled SupportAsist and all SupportAssist-related programs from my Inspiron 5584 a few months ago (see my 22-Mar-2023 post in my thread Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update Rolled Back to v5.5.4.16189) so I can't tell you if SupportAssist is currently failing to install available updates on my system, but many users (including myself) reported a similar problem installing an older version of the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools in Miker5897's July 2020 Can't Install SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools. According to my 02-Dec-2020 post <here> on page 4 of that thread, the problem wasn't solved until Dell pulled the buggy v5.2.2.12981 installer from their update servers and replaced it with a new v5.3.0.13847 installer.

If Dell employee DELL-Jesse L is correct and your Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.7.18773 update is failing to install because your SupportAssist v3.14.x app is corrupted, please note that I would use Dell employee DELL-Chris M's instructions at SA Uninstall / Reinstall when I needed to reinstall Dell SupportAssist v3.x and/or Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery v5.5.x. Those instructions differ from the "new" instructions Dell currently recommends at https://dell.to/3pRpGVF for re-installation of newer Dell SupportAssist v3.13.x and higher apps, mainly because DELL-Chris M's instructions recommend users uninstall all SupportAssist-related programs (including Dell Support Assist Remediation, Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update, etc.) from Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features before re-installing SupportAssist.
