Hardware Scan Result (Manual) -Default Scan -Failed

When I use SA for scanning Hardware, I see this message.

When I open errors I see the following:

Network Card - Failed

Error Code List

PCI Express Status Test - WPE01-ELP

Question: What is wrong with my notebook?

Thanks.

Hi Rst29:

Thank you for posting your system specifications.

If you have the latest SupportAssist v3.10.4 it should be compatible with Win 11 but I haven't upgraded to Win 11 so I can't tell if any of the known issues for v3.10.4 driver scans are more prevalent with this newer OS.

When you said all your drivers are up-to-date does that mean that you have a Realtek PCIe Ethernet Controller (network card) with the recommended v2.45.2020.0609 drivers currently listed on the support page <here> for the Vostro 3500? According to the "Important Information" section of the v2.45.2020.0609 release notes <here> the Realtek LAN driver version that is displayed in Device Manager should be v10.039.0212.2020 for both Win 10 and Win 11 after the update is applied.

Did you try any of my troubleshooting suggestions (e.g., running the hardware test for your network card while connected to your router with an Ethernet cable)? I'm not sure what a WPE01-ELP error code means, but if you don't see an error code that starts with a 1000-xxxx or 2000-xxxx then perhaps WPE01-ELP is just a generic code warning you that the network card diagnostic can't finish until you have connected an Ethernet cable from your Ethernet (network card) port to your router.

The solution for the 01-Sep-2021 thread 5490 AIO Support Assist Error WPE01-EC4 PCIE by Ricardo Eva states the following...

"... I had a ticket with Technical support team for the same issue. The case was sent to their development team.Last week, I was informed that error code WPE01-XXXX is for analytical purpose only. A future SupportAssist build will take care of it. I was not given any ETA for the release though.

As of now ignoring the message is the only option."

... so the display of your WPE01-ELP error code might simply be a bug in SupportAssist.

You might find some additional information about this error code if you post your question in the PC-Doctor Ask Our Experts board at https://www.pcdoctor-community.com/forum/index.php?board=9.0. I searched that board for "WPE01-ELP" and couldn't find an exact match but there are a few threads there asking about similar error codes like Error WPE01-J9E - PCI Express Status Test . The PC-Doctor support rep who responded in that thread noted that "A failure of the PCI Express Status Test does not immediately mean that there is a problem with the associated device, but does indicate some sort of miscommunication."  Again, that "miscommunication" could mean that you didn't have an Ethernet cable connecting your Ethernet (network card) port to your router when you ran your hardware diagnostic or aren't using the recommended network card driver.

Hi Rst29:

What is your computer model, Windows operating system, and Dell BIOS version? If you have a Win 10 or Win 11 OS let us know the version and build shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications [or open a Run dialog box (press the Windows + R keys) and enter winver]. To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field.

Are you currently experiencing any problems with your internet connection, and when you ran your hardware diagnostic did you have an Ethernet cable (which looks similar to a telephone cable but has slightly larger connectors on the ends) connecting the port of your network card to your router, or were you connected to the internet via a wireless connection?

If you know the make/model and current driver version of your network adapter that information would also be helpful - look in the Network Adapters section of your Windows Device Manager and see if any devices there have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark that could indicate a potential problem. My Device Manager shows that I have a Realtek PCIe (a.k.a. PCI Express) network card installed in my Inspiron 5584, but I rarely plug an Ethernet cable from my router into the port for this adapter and just connect to the internet via a wireless connection using my Qualcomm QCA9377 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapter.

I don't recognize that error code WPE01-ELP, but a Google search indicates it  could be a PC-Doctor Toolbox error code (note that Dell SupportAssist is a re-branded version of PC-Doctor). Dell's Diagnostics & Tools page has some additional tests you can run on your computer, and if the ePCR (pre-boot) diagnostics throw an 8-digit error code (e.g., 1000-xxxx or 2000-xxxx) you can enter that error code on the SupportAssist Pre-Boot System Performance Check page to look up further information.

If you have a Win 10 OS there are also several built-in diagnostic tests at Settings | Update & Security | Troubleshoot | Additional Troubleshooters where you can run the Network Adapter troubleshooter.  If you select the test for your Ethernet (network) adapter you'll be prompted to connect your computer from your network adapter port to your router using an Ethernet cable before running the test.

Hi Rst29:

Just an FYI that Dell employee NikhilKiroula posted an update on 03-Mar-2022 in Mclai's XPS 8940 - PCIE Express - WPE01-EXC that states:

  • We have received many issues reported from the field where customers observe PCI Express bus error (WPE01) when they run SupportAssist Hardware scan OTB or web.
  • After extensive discussion around this issue with our vendor, and as per them, this issue is related to software where Realtek driver has marked some parameter wrong under registry not as per industry standard which is leading this issue.
