Dell Update or SupportAssist?
To install Dell driver and BIOS updates should I be running Dell Update or Dell Support Assist?
If Dell Update is fully supported, where do I download it from?
My desktop PC: XPS8940, 8GB memory.

You can download them from here.
IMO, not a good idea to let SupportAssist (or Dell Update) manage a BIOS update. Safer to do it manually via the Flash Update option on the F12 boot menu.
Download the BIOS .exe file here and carefully follow the instructions under "Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu (independent of operating system)" under Installation Instructions on that same page.
NOTE: The PC will shut itself off one or more times during the BIOS update. Just leave it alone until it's safely back at the desktop, even if it looks like it turned itself completely off. Don't press any keys and don't turn the PC off.
