Hi JP.Carr:

Is this the same XPS 15 9550 you you purchased in 2017 that you mentioned in your 23-Jul-2025 topic XPS 9550, unable to install SupportAssist, and do you have a 64-bit Win 10 OS? What is the version and OS build number of your Windows OS [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver] and BIOS version?  To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary.

According to the XPS 15 9550 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/xps-15-9550-laptop/drivers Dell has not released any new Dell software for your computer model since 2023, and the latest Dell updates for your BIOS and hardware drivers date back to 2020/2021.  If you browse to that support page, click the Select Drivers button, and click the This Device tab and enter your unique Service Tag, does that filtered list of software and drivers that are compatible with (but not necessarily required by) your system components still list both Dell Command | Update v3.0.0 (Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_5765W_WIN_3.1.1_A00_03.EXE, rel. 01-Oct-2023) and Dell Update for Windows 10 v3.1.1 (Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_5765W_WIN_3.1.1_A00_03.EXE, rel. 17-Oct-2023)?

NOTE: I installed Dell Update for Windows 10 v3.1.3 (Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_26GC8_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE, rel. 02-Sep-2020) on my Inspiron 5584 on 10-Sep-2020.  I have no idea why your your XPS 15 9550 support page says an even older Dell Update for Windows 10 v3.1.1 was released on 17-Oct-2023.

Keep in mind that older Dell Update programs are no longer supported by Dell as of 31-Dec-2024 [see Alienware Update and Dell Update End of Life (EoL) Announcement]. If I recall correctly, older version of Dell Update v3.x required Dell Client Management Service (a shared Dell service previously required for older Dell software) and would run correctly with Microsoft .NET Framework v4.8.x (a component included with Win 10). Newer versions of SupportAssist v4.x and Dell Update v5.5.0 have been completely re-designed and now require the shared service Dell Core Services and Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x (available as a separate download <here>).

NOTE: I removed all SupportAssist-related programs from my Inspiron 5584 after my service warranty expired because they were too buggy and consumed too much RAM, CPU and other system resources.  I also found the "system optimization" scans in SupportAssist (Clean Files / Tune Performance / Optimize Network) were too aggressive and had the potential to do more harm than good - see my 08-Feb-2025 post in ygil's BSOD Issues After Windows Updates. I recently removed the latest Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 for similar reasons - see my 05-Apr-2025 Dell Update v5.5.0 (rel. 01-Apr-2025) Installs Unnecessary Bloat.

Since your XPS 15 9550 does not support the latest Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 (it would be listed on your XPS 15 9550 support page if it was) and older version of Dell Update for Windows Universal reached end-of-life on 31-Dec-2024 I'm not surprised the old Dell Update for Windows 10 v3.1.1 will not install correctly on your system.  I'm not qualified to interpret Dell installation logs, but given the installation log you provided has multiple error messages similar to "MSI (s) (08:B8) [14:55:19:606]: Disallowing installation of component: {80BBF419-D097-4350-9629-CA5025413CE9} since the same component with higher versioned keyfile exists" it's possible the older system components required by the old Dell Update for Windows 10 v3.1.1 don't even exist on the Dell download servers anymore.

I'm also wondering why you would want to install a software updater utility like SupportAssist and/or Dell Update now, given that Dell as not released a BIOS and/or hardware driver update for your system since 2020/2021. Assuming you already have the latest BIOS and hardware drivers recommended for your Service Tag on your XPS 15 9550 support page, these software updater utilities aren't going to detect any further updates for your system.  If you need to run a hardware diagnostic you should be able run an F12 ePSA (enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment) hardware scan from your BIOS - see the support article How to Run Dell Preboot Diagnostics and Hardware Tests on Your Dell Computer and companion video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inYLxW2_xKo.
