"Dell SupportAssist" vs "SupportAssist" vs "Dell Update" vs "Dell Update for Windows Universal"
The SupportAssist is claiming two updates are "Installed" yet after reboot, a rescan shows same ones are still available or "Something went wrong during this update. Click Retry to try again."
Looking around, it seems I have at least 4 clients sounding like "updaters". Do I have redundant, obsolete or conflicting clients installed in my system?
XPS 17 9720 laptop
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
Installed on 5/26/2023
OS build 22631.4169
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1034.0
Windows says I have the following Dell programs installed:
Dell Digital Delivery
Dell lnc | 7/20/2024
Dell Digital Delivery Services
5.2.0.0 I Dell Inc. | 7/20/2024
Dell Optimizer

Dell Pair
1.2.0 I Dell Inc. | 11/12/2023
Dell SupportAssist
4.0.3.61633 | Dell Inc. | 6/25/2024
Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update
5.5.9.18923 | Dell Inc. | 5/3/2024
Dell SupportAssist Remediation
5.5.10.19019 | Dell Inc. | 1/9/2024
Dell Update
Dell lnc | 5/8/2024
Dell Update for Windows Universal
5.3.0 I Dell Inc. | 5/8/2024
MyDell
3.2.308.1 | Dell, Inc. | 4/26/2024
SupportAssist
Dell lnc | 5/3/2024
I see two things called "SupportAssist" (one with "Dell" in front) and a "Dell Update" and "Dell Update for Windows Universal" Should all this be installed?
(When I purchased the new laptop from Dell, I had repeated blue screen events, and reinstalled the OS from scratch. So, I don't have the factory image, but I did get all the software from the Dell web site.)

Hi @AnotherJamieRI :
Your list of installed software looks normal to me.
Both Dell SupportAssist v4.x and Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x each have two components - the main application and a small "helper" Appx module that contain files and credentials required to install and run the main application.
For example, if I search for "dell update" at Settings | Apps | Apps & Features I can see I have the main Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 application (the same application version listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features) as well as a Dell Update v5.4.19.0 Appx module (see image below).
I no longer have SupportAssist installed on my Inspiron 5584 but you should see something similar if you search for "supportassist" (i.e. one entry for the main Dell SupportAssist application and one for the small SupportAssist Appx module)
That said, a few of your Dell application do appear to be outdated. For example, the XPS 17 9720 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/xps-17-9720-laptop/drivers
currently recommends MyDell v3.2.308.1 (rel. 06-Sep-2024). Post back and let us know the two available updates SupportAssist currently detects if you want to try manually updating your outdated Dell software and/or drivers.
Regarding the SupportAssist error "Something went wrong during this update. Click Retry to try again", see employee DELL-Chris M's 10-Jun-2024 SupportAssist, "Hardware scan fails", "We ran into a problem" about some of the known bugs in the current SupportAssist v4.0.3. Your best option might be to uninstall SupportAssist v4.0.3 (as suggested in DELL-Chris M's post) and use Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x instead, or just stop using SupportAssist v4.0.3 for now and wait to see what bug fixes are included in the next release.
