Dell SupportAssist failed to install update from 3.10.4.18 on Windows 10
Latitude 7280
Hi,
I have a Latitude 7280 (Windows 10) with SupportAssist 3.10.4.18 running fine.
When I run it, it prompts me that there is a newer version. I chose to upgrade and everything started to go bad.
The first update installation failed. The second try appears to work - Programs and Features showed a version of 3.11 (I forgot to take down the details). However, the link in Start Menu seems to still launch 3.10.4 and only gave an error message.
So I tried to uninstall. Use Control Panel or Start Menu. Install still fails. Then I tried to manually delete all the folders mentioned in various thread, in Program Data and Program Files, in Windows Temp. But installation still fails.
What could I do to fix it?
Thanks

Hi redhonker:
What is the exact error message that you see when you run the SupportAssist installer, and has the service warranty for your Latitude 7280 expired yet?
What is the version and build of your Win 10 OS shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications? Do you have the current Dell Latitude 7280/7380/7480 System BIOS v1.25.0 (rel. 23-May-2022) recommended on the support page <here> for you Latitude 7280? If you aren't sure open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel, and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field.
Unfortunately, there are so many issues right now with the latest SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. 23-Jun-2022) installer that I'm not sure you'll ever get it to run correctly until Dell releases a new installer with fewer glitches. Have you installed the Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v4.5.0 (rel. 25-Mar-2022) listed <here> on the Latitude 7280 support page, and if so does it run correctly?
When you said you manually delete all the folders mentioned in various threads, did you uninstall all SupportAssist-related programs (e.g., Dell SupportAssist Remediation, Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update, etc.) from Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features as instructed in employee DELL-Chris M's SA Uninstall / Reinstall before you started your manual cleanup? Note that when I follow DELL Chris M's instructions I usually use Revo Uninstaller Free in "Aggressive" mode to uninstall those programs to ensure I clean up most of the orphaned files and registry entries left behind by the "regular" uninstaller.
The minimum system requirements posted <here> for SupportAssist v3.11.4 show that this latest version now requires both "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 and .NET Core Runtime v5.0.14". Does Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features show that you have a .NET Runtime v5.0.x installed? From my Inspiron 5584:

64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1766 * Firefox v102.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2205.7-1.1.19400.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.11.202-1.0.1716 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.6867 * Dell SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 * Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.5.0 * Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.18.0 * Revo Uninstaller Free Portable v2.3.9

Hi redhonker:
Sorry, I don't know where you could find an installer for the previous SupportAssist v3.10.4.18. The auto-update from v3.10.4.18 to v3.11.4.29 actually went smoothly on my Inspiron 5584 on 24-Jun-2022, but that might be because I already had the Microsoft .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 installed on my system.
I personally don't like SupportAssist (I find it's too buggy and uses too many system resources) and I've disabled both the Dell SupportAssist service and Dell SupportAssist Remediation service at Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services so that neither of these programs can start at boot-up. I normally use Dell Update Windows Universal v4.x to check for available updates for my Dell software and drivers, and I use Macrium Reflect Free imaging software to create rescue media (a bootable USB) and the occasional full disk image in case I ever have to perform an emergency recovery and roll back my entire system to an earlier date.

My 7280 is out of warranty but on the latest Windows 10.
I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to install the current SupportAssit. I've done at least 10 different tries. Until the new version is released, is it possible to restore the previous version?
Thanks
