Dell SupportAssist 4.10.0 Bug When Connected via Ethernet

There is a bug in the latest version of Dell SupportAssist 4.10.1 that was recently updated on both my Dell M7510 and M7520 laptops.

Prior to this version, the software works fine. With this version, every time I load it, it says "We can't reach the internet right now...let's get you back online".

It happens when you are HARD-WIRED into a router and you have WiFi disabled.

In previous versions, that configuration (i.e. disabling WiFi and connecting to the internet via Ethernet) worked fine. I've been using Dell SupportAssist for years. In this version, I have to enable my WiFi in order for Dell SupportAssist to work, even though I am connected to the internet via a hard-wired ethernet cable.

When I click on the "Let's get you back online" link, it spins forever and I have to shut down the application via Task Manager.

@DELL-Cares I actually did contact support, but they told me the problem was with my Dell Precision M7510 and told me to take it to a local repair shop.

The problem is NOT with my device, as I could also duplicate the issue on my Dell Precision M7520 when running Dell SupportAssist 4.10.1, disabling WiFi, and connecting to the internet via Ethernet.

So I uninstalled Dell SupportAssist 4.10.1 and, fortunately, had a backup copy of an older version of the software.  I installed Dell SupportAssist 4.8.2 on BOTH of my devices, and it worked absolutely flawlessly.

So the issue is with SupportAssist 4.10.1, but I can't seem to convince Dell Support to look at it.

For now, I am going to use version 4.8.2 and will NOT click on the link in Dell SupportAssist to update the software to the latest version until I am assured that this issue is fixed.

I have this problem too on My Dell Precision 7520 on Windows 10Pro.

The Latest Support Assist Software is not working properly. It FALSELY states "We can't reach the internet right now. Let's get you back online"

and "Check For Updates" can not be selected by it's self & in Full System Scan it is unselected by default. It refuses to be selected so we can not get any Critical updates to BIOS etc.

You broke the app with the latest update. Fix it please or tell me how to get the previous one to this update?

@Master VB Guru I created a thread on the 7th with the exact same problem here

Btw, even with Ethernet it randomly works 10% of the time, but that's not saying much.

Could you tell me where do I get SupportAssist v4.8.2 so I can nuke v4.10.1?

Thank you.

You are correct on that.  I’ve had it fail recently even when BOTH WiFi and Ethernet are enabled.

When I download SupportAssist, I save each setup executable to a folder on my External USB Drive by Version Number…just for situations like this.

I have not found anywhere on Dell’s website where you can download an older version.

@Master VB GuruIsn't the setup file just a wrapper for whatever version Dell's servers are pushing?

Is it possible for you to share your v4.8.2 setup somehow?

@ner0 This is the SupportAssistInstaller.exe application that I used.  It installed Dell SupportAssist 4.8.2 for me.

When I ran the 4.10.1.42635 version downloaded from the website, it installed 4.10.1.

Here is a link to it on my Google Drive:

@Master VB Guru Awesome, that actually worked. Not for long, I'm sure, but it pulled v4.8.2 like you said. I'll just ignore the upgrade notice.

At some point I may even completely discard SupportAssist. I'm working on a powershell script to check latest BIOS version and download the setup file if it's newer. It's a bit primitive and will not work if/when Dell changes the URLs or HTML layout, but it's an alternative I'm really considering after this latest issue.

Fun fact about Dell's CDN:
When using Powershell (and probably other stuff like curl) to pull Dell's drivers webpages takes ~20 seconds, but if you impersonate a known bot like Google's then it is prioritized almost to the very top and only taking ~1 second to reply. That's a 95% increase in response time.

I guess I shouldn't have mentioned this publicly, but I have.

@DELL-Cares I also have this problem. I have a latitude 5520 and a precision 3520, both are running the most recent version of Windows 10 Pro. The older version of DSA worked just fine on both of them and easily connected to the internet. But recently I updated both of them to the latest version of DSA and now neither one of them will EVER connect to the internet. But on both laptops, all my other utilities and programs EASILY connect to the internet - Google Chrome browses, Dell Command Update connects and checks for updates, Norton Utility does live updates, Norton 360 does live updates, TurboTax gets his updates, Warcraft runs just fine, Windows updates work easily, etc.... but the newest version of DSA will suddenly  not connect to the internet, NEVER connects no matter what I try on either laptop

@tlibson Please look at the link I shared on my Google Drive for the SupportAssistInstaller.exe file:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sz6LSoSCGOheJaof6uulkz2myLV2KeZs?usp=sharing

It will install SupportAssist 4.8.2, and you will be back up and running until Dell fixes this.

Just a quick (and completely) unrelated request. If anyone following this topic still has SupportAssist v4.1.0.42635 installed on their computer it would be appreciated if you could compare Valinger's 13-Oct-2025 image of their installed apps in their recent topic 2 Dell SupportAssist apps to what you see on your own system and let Valinger know:

  • Your Windows OS
  • If you see two apps both named "Dell SupportAssist" at Settings | Apps | Installed Apps.  I suspect this is normal, since past SupportAssist versions typically consist of two components - a main application and a smaller "helper" Appx module as discussed in Valinger's topic.
  • The full name and size of your Dell SupportAssist app(s). Valinger's main SupportAssist v4.1.0.42635 application is taking up almost a full GB of disk space, which seems massive to me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a latitude 5520 and a precision 3520. Both of them are running the most recent updates for Windows 10 Pro. And on both of them I've tested extensively for hours and hours, and get exactly the same results. Anytime that I install version 4.10.x, it ALWAYS fails to connect to the internet. Anytime that I install version 4.8.x, it ALWAYS consistently connects to the internet and works just fine.

Based on many hours on multiple days executing tests, it's not settings or configuration of the host computer, nor the router, etc - it's something that Dell changed between version 4.8 and version 4.10.
