Hi christos1:

We still don't know your Dell computer model so you should check the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Support Matrix just to confirm that SupportAssist OS Recovery is compatible with your system.

If you have SupportAssist installed does a manual update check (Home tab | Get Drivers & Downloads) offer the current SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.0.16046? I might be wrong, but I believe that SupportAssist OS Recovery is only offered to compatible computers via utilities like SupportAssist or Dell Update and that a standalone .exe installer is not available for download from the Dell support site.

This SupportAssist v3.10.4 image was captured 06-Dec-2021 on my Inspiron 5584 after I ran a manual check for updates.

SupportAssist v3_10_4 Two Updates Found SA OS Recovery Tools v5_5_0_16046 EDITED 06 Dec 2021.png

According to my notes the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14954 update was installed on my Inspiron 5584 by SupportAssist on 13-Apr-2021 but I had repeated problems installing that particular version (see my 13-Apr-2021 thread Problem Updating To SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594).  I believe this version was eventually pulled from the Dell servers because of a serious bug where installation could wipe partitions higher than C:\ drive (see my 28-Jul-2021 post in Desmodus1984's Inspiron 5570 - SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools Downloads But Not Installing).

I still have SupportAssist OS Recovery v5.5.0.16046 installed on my Inspiron 5584 but it is currently disabled - I've turn off System Repair in my SupportAssist settings at Options (gear icon) | Settings | System Repair as shown below and I have disabled my Dell SupportAssist Remediation service at Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services to ensure the service can't start at boot-up. I now use Macrium Reflect Free disk imaging software for creating full disk images that I can use if I have to perform an emergency system recovery, and I plan to uninstall SupportAssist OS Recovery from my system.

Hi christos1:

What is your computer model and Windows operating system (if Win 10 please include the version and build shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications), and are you trying to update the Dell OS Recovery Tool v.2.3.x or SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.x?

The 21 MB Dell OS Recovery Tool v2.3.x available for download at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/drivers/osiso/recoverytool/wt64a (currently Dell-USB-Recovery-Tool-Application_X3VK8_WIN_2.3.7010.0_A00.exe) is a small utility you can use to create a bootable USB thumb drive that can be used to remove all the data and software from your hard drive and reinstall the Windows operating system was installed on your computer when it shipped from the factory. See the support article How to Download and Use the Dell Operating System Recovery Image in Microsoft Windows for more information. If you have v2.3.7010.0 that is the latest version available for download.

The ~ 350 MB SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.x (also called Dell SupportAssist Remediation) is a separate program and is normally installed and updated by Dell SupportAssist or Dell Update. This software creates a system repair point (snapshot) every time your system is re-booted and saves that system repair point in a hidden folder at C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\ folder that can be used to repair your computer if it fails to boot up correctly. See the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery User’s Guide for more information.

If SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.x is installed on your system you should have a settings manager at Control Panel | System and Security | SupportAssist OS Recovery ...

.. and you should be able to find your current version number at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features, where it is listed as Dell SupportAssist Remediation. My Inspiron 5584 currently has v5.5.0.16046, which I believe is the latest version.

Hi christos1:

I see you marked this thread as solved, but could you let us know what solved your issue? I'm not clear if your computer model was missing from the list of compatible systems in the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Support Matrix or if you ran a check for updates in SupportAssist v3.10.4 and it installed the current SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.0.16046.

You still haven't told us your Dell computer model but some of your earlier threads like dell xpsl502x upgrade to windows 11 indicate you have an older Dell XPS L502x that you've upgraded to Win 10 v21H1 / Build 19043.1469. The support page <here> for the XPS L502x indicates your computer might have originally shipped with a Win XP or Win 7 OS, and warns that Dell does not support Windows 10 or above on this model, so that might explain why you're having difficulty installing the current SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.5.0.16046.

You said you previously had SupportAssist OS Recovery v5.4.1.14954 (rel. April 2021) installed on your machine so if was working correctly I'm not sure why v5.5.0.16046 (rel. Dec 2021) wouldn't also be detected as an available update by SupportAssist. For other users following this thread, just note that there are several known issues listed in the SupportAssist v3.10.4 release notes <here>,  including two issues where SupportAssist driver scans may not work if Dell Update / Dell Command Update is either installed after SupportAssist or updated.

Dell SupportAssist v3_10_4 Release Notes Known Issues Dell Update and Driver Scans 27 Jan 2022.png

The release notes <here> for my current Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update v5.5.1.16143 (rel. 21-Jan-2022; listed on the support page <here> for my Inspiron 5584 but not on the support page <here> for the XPS L502x) also note that "The Dell Update - SupportAssist Update Plugin works in conjunction with the Dell Update application to keep your systems recovery environment up to date with the latest version of SupportAssist OS Recovery" so I assume this means that users who have installed Dell Update should keep this plugin up-to-date if want to ensure they receive the latest available version of SupportAssist OS Recovery.
