Dell G3 3579 keyboard/charging issues after updating BIOS

Recently i've installed a BIOS update to version 1.12.0 via Dell Update application. The update finished as intended, there were no issues and the PC rebooted succesfully. However, I noticed that my keyboard doesn't respond to my actions and doesn't work at all (even though the drivers are up to date and I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling them). Right now the only way for me to type is to enable a screen keyboard and/or connect another one via USB . Besides , I've noticed that my PC charge percentage doesn't change when plugged in (it stays at 18% and goes into power saving mode when unplugged).

All of the above issues started as soon as I updated my BIOS version. Is there any way to fix them?

Just talked to Dell support and got it resolved. I needed to download the latest BIOS from Dell support resources and install it. It took several minutes to install, restarted the laptop and now everything seems OK. (keyboard is working properly)

Hello,

I have the same problem after upgrading BIOS by Dell Support Assist earlier today.

I also have the same problem with the keyboard, charging etc after Dell support Assistant updated the bios with the file: G3_3579_3779_1.12.0.exe

How do I restore the bios as I've tried reinstalling the 1.12.0 file as administrator but nothing happens.

Dell Support Update installed an "Urgent" Bios update which has broken this laptop.  It now won't charge past 7% and the keyboard is not working.  I cannot downgrade the Bios as there is not enough power to do so.  It was working perfectly before this update.

Please advise

Anyone else having the same problem as me with not charging and keyboard not working - here is the solution.

Copy the bios file onto a USB formatted as Fat32.  reboot the Laptop pressing the F12 key to get into the One Time Boot Menu. select Flash Bios Upgrade. select the file.  Mine was saying Power inadequate as I only had 6% battery remaining.  there is an Option box. click on it and type in /forceit. Press enter and it gives you the option to flash the file to bios.  Once that completed the laptop was working properly again with keyboard and charging.

Thanks dell for making me waste two days on this when you could have told us this way of re-flashing the bios.

good luck folks

download the same bios version and put it on a flashdrive FAT32, restart computer with flashdrive connected and press F12 to boot options, and there you have bios update option, and update from there, and that will work. it works for me

Completely agree.

That problems happened also to my keyboard after a Dell update in November/2020.

I hope you have had luck solving the problem, I have already given up on Dell.

I asked customer service about this situation, but they wanted to charge me for a warranty renewal because it was out of warranty for 4-5 days.

Sadly, I have only the following words for you: "Shameless planned obsolescence"

Take care and good luck.

This also worked for me. I had to manually download the latest driver Version 1.14.0 on my computer. Then I restarted it. After that, my keyboard already works when I had to type my password. Battery percentage issues were fixed too.

Hi,

Did you try the following?

"1. Copy the bios file onto a USB formatted as Fat32.

2. Reboot the Laptop pressing the F12 key to get into the One Time Boot Menu.

3. Select Flash Bios Upgrade. Select the file.

4. Mine was saying Power inadequate as I only had 7% battery remaining.  There is an Option box. Click on it and type in   /forceit  . To type in   /forceit you will need an external wired USB keyboard.  Press enter and it gives you the option to flash the file to bios.

Once that completed the laptop was working properly again with keyboard and charging."

It worked for me.

See the steps above. Many thanks to Carlos274!!!

Dell support is useless. I have a feeling they caused these problems on purpose after my warranty expired.
