Hi coppenheim:

What is your Dell computer model, Windows OS, and Dell Command | Update version? Is SupportAssist installed, and if so does it launch normally and have you received the current SupportAssist v4.6.3 (released 24-Dec-2024)?  HINT: Look in Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features to find the version number of these Dell apps.

If you restart your computer does this solve the problem?

Dell Client Management Service is a service that is shared by multiple Dell apps like Dell Update For Windows Universal v5.x, Dell Command | Update v5.x , SupportAssist v4.x, etc. When one of these apps receives a program update this service is temporarily stopped by the installer, and on occasion the service fails to restart once the update is complete until after you re-boot your system.

I use Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 on my Inspiron 5584, and when I open my Windows Services I can see my Dell Client Management Service starts automatically at Windows startup and has a Status of "Running".

If a system restart doesn't solve your problem open your Windows Services [search for "services" from your taskbar or open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter services.msc as instructed in the Dell support article How to Use Windows Services to Start or Stop Services] and scroll down to Dell Client Management Service.  If this service is not running (i.e., if the Status is blank) select the service and click Start the service as shown below, and then see if Dell Command | Update launches normally.

If your problems keeps re-occurring (i.e., if Dell Client Management Service continues to fail to start automatically at Windows Startup) let us know the Startup Type of this service on your system (i.e., Disabled, Automatic, Automatic (Delayed Start), etc.].
