BRAND NEW dell can't run support assist
(TOS Profanity Violation Removed by Admin)OK, I know that support assist (now, I get it, it breaks really easily and you have to uninstall it and reinstall (and it still doesn't work) but I just got a BRAND NEW Optiplex 7090, and FIRST THING I did was try to run the PRE INSTALLED support assist, and it opens and the wheel spins and then it tells me it's taking a long time and I should restart the PC.
Is there anything I can waste my time doing in futility to try unsuccessfully to get this to work?

Hi MickBurke:
I'm guessing the short answer is "No", but since your service warranty is still valid you might want to open an online support request at https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/contactus if Dell customer support hasn't contacted you via a private message yet.
What is your Windows operating system [if Win 10 or Win 11 please include your edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version and build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications] and current BIOS version [open a Run dialog box (Windows+R keys), enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel, and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field]? What version of Dell supportAssist is listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features? For now I'll assume your OptiPlex has SupportAssist for Home PCs and not SupportAssist for Business PCs.
If you have SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 you can review some of the suggestions I posted on 06-Sep-2022 in JohnnyRedShirt's SupportAssist Unable to Get Drivers / Missing Features After Re-installation and confirm that the required MS .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 is installed, that the Dell TechHub service and other required Dell services are running, etc., but at this point I'm not sure any of those suggestions will get SupportAssist to launch on your system. There are many users having problems either installing or running SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 - especially users with Win 11 and/or higher end Alienware / XPS / Latitude / Vostro / OptiPlex models that also use system configuration apps like Alienware Command Center (AWCC) or Dell Command | Configure.
At the moment I suspect that some built-in Windows security measure that is part of Windows' Core Isolation like Memory Integrity and is normally turned ON by default on Win 11 computers is at least part of the problem, but I have no proof of that. Note that Memory Integrity (located at Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security | Device Security | Core Isolation | Memory Integrity and turned OFF by default on Win 10 machines) is currently OFF on my Inspiron 5584 / Win 10 Pro v21H2 and System Information (msinfo32) shows that Kernel DMA Protection is also OFF.
Dell is currently in the process of rolling out a new SupportAssist v3.12.2.40 to try and solve some of these problems, but crimsom's early feedback in their 01-Oct-2022 thread 17 R5, SupportAssist x64 v3.12.2.40 Stuck on Scan Hardware Option suggests that v3.12.2.40 still has a lot of bugs. The release notes for v3.12.2.40 still haven't been posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs so I can't even tell you if the system requirements have changed (e.g., if v3.12.2.40 now requires the supported MS .NET Runtime v6.x instead of the out-of-support MS .NET Runtime v5.x required by v3.11.4.39).
SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 seems to run correctly on my Inspiron 5584 but I don't like using this app - it's too buggy, consumes too many system resources, and the "system optimization" scans (Clean Files / Tune Performance / Optimize Network) are too aggressive and have the potential to do more harm than good (see my 12-Jul-2021 post in ex-jedi's Prevent Automatic Recycle Bin Emptying about the over-aggressive registry cleaner associated with the Tune Performance scan of SupportAssist). I have disabled my Dell SupportAssist and Dell TechHub services so that SupportAssist can't launch automatically on my Inspiron 5584 at boot-up and I've started using Dell Update v4.x to check for Dell software and driver updates. if I ever need to run a hardware scan I can still run Dell's F12 ePSA (enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment) hardware diagnostics from my BIOS.
If you want to try Dell Update v4.x on your computer go to https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=products and enter your unique Service Tag, which should re-direct you to the support page for your OptiPlex 7090. I'm not sure, but it looks like Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v4.6.0 (Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_DT6YC_WIN_4.6.0_A00.EXE, released 25-Aug-2022) that is listed on the OptiPlex 7090 Driver & Downloads tab likely will be recommended for your Service Tag. If that app runs correctly you can use it to look for available Dell software and driver updates while Dell tries to fix SupportAssist.

Thanks! I figured I'd likely have to resort to Update, but thought I'd check (and vent a little too).
No word form dell support.
Thanks again.

Hi MickBurke:
Just an FYI that I launched SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 on my Inspiron 5584 today and the auto-check for product updates installed a new v3.12.3.5. The release notes for SupportAssist v3.12.3 have been posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs and the minimum system requirements <here> confirm that this new version requires .NET Core Runtime v6.0.x.
I posted some initial feedback about v3.12.3.5 in The Escaper's 08-Aug-2022 thread SupportAssist Get Drivers & Downloads Not Working, but so far things look okay. If you still can't get SupportAssist to launch on your OptiPlex 7090 see Dell employee DELL-Chris M's instructions for a clean reinstall at SA Uninstall / Reinstall.
