A failed BIOS update will break the motherboard CMOS. If your warranty has already expired, you have to weigh the pros and cons in attempting to install a BIOS update. A replacement motherboard is costly.
My instructions for installing a BIOS update on a Laptop
* Either the external power adapter is connected to the Laptop or the battery charge is at a minimum of 75%
* The Laptop is not connected to any dock
* Download/Save the BIOS file to the Windows desktop
* Restart the Laptop
* Disconnect all external devices (HDD, monitor, printer, etc.) from the Laptop
* Close/end task all unnecessary software applications (Browsers, Dell SupportAssist, Dell Update Application, Steam, Anti-virus, etc.)
* Find the saved BIOS file on the Windows desktop
* Right click the file and choose, "Run as administrator". Note, you do not need to "extract" the file. Just run it
* Follow the prompted instructions. The Laptop will reboot on its own, do not force it

I'm also having the same problem when trying to upgrade to BIOS 1.15 on my Inspiron 7573 (currently running BIOS 1.13).
I've tried numerous times, over the course of last two weeks and it keeps failing. Sometimes it's hanging in Validating and other times it downloads, but failing in the Installing.

Thank you for putting together these instructions!
I've followed your instructions and this time was able to upgrade to BIOS 1.15 (from previous 1.13).
I was having problems before to upgrade the BIOS 1.15 on my Inspiron 7573 using the Dell SupportAssist, whereas this time I've decided trying to download manually the BIOS 1.15 installer from Dell.
I've also disconnected all external devices (docking, monitor, printer, etc.). I've only left on the charger.
Running the BIOS installer manually under Administrator was very smooth and successful this time (total execution around 1-2 minutes).
In the end I suspect the upgrade process via the Dell SupportAssist is having some problems, as numerous users reported similar failure behavior.
