April 7th critical bios update - ni indication from Support Assist

I get notifications from Dell about updates as at one time "Support Assist" wouldn't download, but it now works fine EXCEPT I was notified of a critical Bios update dated April 7th.  I thought I would leave it to "Support Assist" to deal with, yet when I click on  'get Drivers and Downloads' I get the message "no updates available".  I'm puzzled.  Is "Support Assist" behind the curve.  It's only April 10th now.  should I wait for Support Assist to do the job for me?  That's what I'd prefer.

Hi charliewhatshisname:

I have an Inspiron 15 5584 running Win 10 Pro v22H2 and it often takes about a week before new updates that are posted on my Inspiron 5584 support page are detected by Dell Update v4.x and/or SupportAssist v3.x. I don't know why that is, but it's possible that Dell deliberately posts new updates on their support site first and lets the "early adopters" download and manually install the standalone .EXE installers so they can collect telemetry and make sure there are no major bugs before the update is widely distributed via Dell Update v4.x and/or SupportAssist v3.x.

Just note that many users in this forum advise against allowing utilities like Dell Update v4.x and/or SupportAssist v3.x to install BIOS updates just in case the update fails to run to completion and prevents you from booting up your system. See my 03-Dec-2022 post in RotcivZednanreh's Dell G3 3579 3 Amber and 1 White Battery Code and Won't Turn On for more information.

Two alternate methods for manually installing BIOS updates [i.e., "Updating the BIOS from Windows" (the method I use - I always save the .EXE installer on my desktop and then right-click and choose "Run as Administrator") vs. "Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu" (the safest method)] are always posted in the "Installation Instructions" section of the detailed BIOS release notes. Post back with your Dell computer model and operating system if you need help finding the release notes for the latest BIOS update that matches your system.
