17 R5, SupportAssist for PCs (Home PCs)

Hi, SupportAssist for PCs is having problems with the BIOS option to provide Windows OS Repair and Restore, then SupportAssist update says SupportAssist for Home PCs ran into and unexpected issue. Does anyone know if SupportAssist for PCs has suddenly been withdrawn? SupportAssist for Home PCs never installs. Now there is no working SupportAssist.

Dell won't and can not windraw supportassist

I believe you are referring to Supportassist OS Recovery option in F12 Menu

You need to install Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update for that option to fix.

As far as supportassist app is concerned

Try installing it again and let it fail

Open Event viewer > Application

Hi @XPS_Man

In the first OP image, SupportAssist suddenly offers to download Windows OS repair and restore features, but download and install fails.

In the second OP image, SupportAssist for Home PCs ran into an unexpected issue and does not open.

SupportAssist has been removed by Revo Uninstaller Free.

There is no OS Recovery option in F12 Menu.

Hi Dell EMC Community, thank you for the email today. This strange SupportAssist behaviour problem has not been solved. Out-of-the-box SupportAssist has always been problematic. Community Manager asked why I am not responding to Dell updates, Answer, SupportAssist says there are no Dell updates. SupportAssist troubleshoot for AlienFX 2.0, AWCC v5.3.2.0 (no Home or FX tab), Stuck in Dark Mode, etc. do not exist. Service Request does not fix these problems.

Hi crimsom:

Your first image ("Windows OS repair and restore features are available for download.." ) looks like the same pop-up message that rinconman285 observed in the SupportAssist interface of their Precision 7760 laptop - see Question # 3 of their 13-Aug-2021 thread SupportAssist Questions . My post in that thread explains how to check if SupportAssist OS Recovery (a.k.a. Dell SupportAssist Remediation) is installed on your system, and some of the buggy behaviour this software has recently displayed on my Inspiron 5584.

My SupportAssist was updated to v3.10.1.23 on 29-Jul-2021, and when I tried to view the Home tab I discovered that the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.3.15135 were installing without my permission (note that I have all automatic update and optimization scans DISABLED in SupportAssist at Options (gear icon) Settings | Automate Scans and Optimizations | Scan Your System and Drivers) - see my thread 03-Aug-2021 thread SupportAssist OS Recovery v5.4.3.15135 Not Creating System Repair Points for further details. I'm not sure, but I suspect that there were enough complaints about these forced installations that the latest SupportAssist v3.10.3.3 is now displaying the prompt you see in your first image (at least on some laptop models) so that users have the option to accept or decline the installation of the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.3.15135.  This update has a large ~350 MB installer that can take several minutes to download and install and can cause unexpected problems if the installation is interrupted before it runs to completion.

Note that if you continue to have problems opening SupportAssist that instructions for a clean reinstall are posted in DELL-Chris M's SA Uninstall/Reinstall. Those instruction require the uninstall of all SupportAssist-related programs (including Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update) before SupportAssist is reinstalled.

If they want you to collect diagnostic logs they might prefer that you don't make any changes to your system configuration for now.
