Working with Symmetrix Device Data Views in Performance Manager

When working with Symmetrix Device Data Views is there a way to?..

  1. Sort the existing Data Views?  I have created quite a few and other than new / newly modified ones displaying at the bottom of the list I haven't seen a way to sort these by name.
  2. Clone / copy an existing Data View to use to create a new view?
  3. Edit a data view outside of the Performance Manager Data View Definition tool?  I sometimes have a long list of Meta Group objects I would like to create a view for and it is extremely inconvenient to attempt to pick them from a list.  I would like to be able to just cut and paste my list of Meta device heads, e.g. I would like to paste in the list of Meta devices listed from a SYMRDG -g DgName QUERY command.
  4. Modify the details of an existing "Data View Contents" line when modifying an existing Data View in the Data View Definition window?  E.g. I would like to be able to modify a list of meta devices in an existing Data View Contents line without having to re-select all the Meta devices in the existing view and adding my one new Meta device object I just added to the SRDF device group.

3. I import/create device group on ECC server, that way when i go to Metrics view i can select my device group and look at metrics for those specific devices.

Thanks Dynamox -

I am running ECC Performance Manage Version 6.1.0.0.179.  Until today I only had the device groups defined on the ECC server, CEINVAP63 where my Performance Manager Repository resides and I never had selections for the 3 device groups.  After reading your post I decided to try adding these groups to our other ECC server CEINVAP64.  After doing this I now see my 3 device groups listed when I select Objects--> Specified --> Groups.  They list as medboot (SYMAPI), meddata (SYMAPI), and medvmware (SYMAPI). This is a tremendous improvement!

I have the following ECC agents split between servers CEINVAP63 and CEINVAP64 (for load balancing I suppose)...

CEINVAP63

API Server

Console

FLR Archiver

Host

Master Agent

Server

Store
SYMAPI Server

Tomcat

Web Application

WLA Archiver

CEINVAP64

FCC

Host

Mapping

Master Agent

SDM

Symmetrix

VMware

I assume it is because one of these agents was running on CEINVAP64 where the device groups were not defined that I never saw the device groups show up in Performance Manager before today.  Would you know which of these it is?

Thanks again.  Ken

You Symmetrix Agent is the one that is going to pick up the info from the SYMAPI server. So whatever configuration exists (as far as DGs) on the Symm agent host, that is what will get picked up. When you drill down through the CC Console you will actually find the DGs listed under the hosts that host them, not under the arrays (since the array doesn't know about them unless you are running GNS). If there are multiple hosts with DGs for the same devices, I'm not sure how Performance manager would see them though. Might want to be careful of this to avoid confusion.
