watch4net and EMC SMARTS

Hi,

I am using EMC Watch4Net to monitor VNX Block Storage, and would like to know the configuration steps required to direct events to SMARTS Global Console. I have SMARTS AM-PM and ESM apart from Watch4Net. What changes do I require for this change?

Sorry I am quite new to these solutions and still trying to get some of these integration done.

Thanks.

You may also want to look into the Notification Module (NOTIF) - it makes configuration of trap handling a lot simpler than the basic ASL script method. The document

'EMC Ionix ITOps Notification Module

Version 8.1 Service Pack 1

User Guide

P/N 300-012-288

REV A01' describes it.

I also strongly recommend using the NOTIF manager for trap processing. One of the issues you will find with using traps from APG/W4N into Smarts (or traps from any EMS/NMS managing end devices) is that by default the trap will be associated to the W4N server, which is why Arch's comment about discovering the W4N server is critical (so that it has the object in the topology to associate the trap to).

Using NOTIF however, you can use an ASL script to extract the actual end device information from the trap and then associated the trap to the device rather than the W4N server.
