VMware Agent for ControlCenter 6

Oh the joys of trying to get VMware Agent for ControlCenter 6 to work. I'm able to have the assisted discovery go out to our VI server and pull down the ESX hosts properly (albeit with a partial Diamond icon). However, it is not pulling any information from the hosts. Does anyone out there know if the VI client needs to be installed on the ECC server running the vmware agent to allow ECC to connect to Vmware properly?

It sounds like you are discovering against VirtualCenter. For the current release, the VMware agent needs to be able to connect to the ESX server directly as there is information that it collects that is not available directly via VirtualCenter. For that reason, if the credentials supplied for the VirtualCenter do not match the ESX server, then the agent will only be able to perform a partial discovery of the ESX server. The Diamond indicates that an ESX server is partially discovered which means there is only a limited amount of discovered data available for that particular ESX server.

Assuming that the credentials for the VirtualCenter are different than the individual ESX servers sitting behind the VC, you can enter the ESX server credentials into the VC assisted discovery dialogue and the agent will use those credentials to log into the ESX servers directly. Note, if more than one ESX server shares the same set of credentials, you only need to enter that set of credentials once.

As future releases of VirtualCenter and ESX server become available, we expect to be able to completely discover what we need by just contacting VirtualCenter which makes this issue go away.

The added functionality from the VMware agent is only available in ControlCenter 6.

Open a request for enhancement on Powerlink: Go to "support", "request support", "request a product enhancement"

So I guess I need to upgrade. I am currently running ControlCenter 5.2 sp5.
Thanks for the answer.
