Tiebreaker error sending to Email but not to Logs

I'm not sure if this is the wrong place. If it is, I'm sorry. I have 2 SANs that are using DellEMC Unisphere for SC Series (v3020). I'm getting alerts in my email saying this:

[2023-11-22 13:54:00+0000] Alert created on controller 'xxxxxx' for object [internal ref: 'Tiebreaker 3'] - [TiebreakerStatus]: The Storage Center is not able to access Tiebreaker [3]. Associated synchronous Live Volumes are no longer protected, and will not be able to automatically failover if the Primary system has an outage.

The problem is, I can't find the error in the server's logs or alerts at all. I'm not quite sure what's going on.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

Does it show the live volumes? Are the storage devices able to ping each other?

It does show the live volumes. And they are able to ping each other. But usually they are up. It just happens to go down and then fix itself within the hour. The problem is, that hour often ends up being during times of backups.

How are the devices connected? Is there a switch in between? It working sometimes and not others it might not be happening on the storage but in the connectivity.

Thanks,

Josh

@DELL-Josh Cr There are a series of switches connecting them yeah. But they're connecting a lot of things together and these are the only things popping up an error message. The weird thing is that I can't find these errors in the logs. Only in these emails I'm geting.

You may want to try updating the local tiebreaker https://dell.to/47nwvPb

@DELL-Josh Cr Ok. I'm sorry. I'm dense. I thought volumes and live volumes were the same thing. It looks like I might not have any live volumes. My gui looks like this. So there is no option to select live volumes in data mobility.

Were there any in the past? Has it always sent this warning? And you said it is affecting backups? Seems odd that it is sending the warning without any live volumes existing.

Thanks,

Josh

@DELL-Josh Cr I agree. And it's happening during backup hours, but I'm not seeing errors for it on my backup server either. For all I know, everything is being backed up fine. I don't think there were any live volumes in the past, but on server 2, all of the volumes have the title LV, so I'm assuming it was intended to be a live volume. It hasn't always sent this warning. But it is happening more and more recently. For instance, it happened 7 times on Friday, once on Saturday and twice on Sunday.

Have you rebooted the devices? Sometimes this can resolve tiebreaker disconnects, but the tiebreaker shouldn't matter on non live volumes.

Thanks,

Josh
