Sym/SDM/VMware agents using assisted discovery in CC6
Do you see any problems with deploying VM guests with Symm , SDM, Vmware agents through ECC using NetApp on the back end for shared LUNS in my ESX 3.0 deployment?
I have read about the need for a RDM creation for the gatekeeper for Symm/SDM!
Is there a work around for this? besides standalone host deployment
There are separate fabrics between our tiered storage at our site?
We can't attach the ESX servers to our DMX these are separate fabrics.

The first thing that needs to be done is to assign the gatekeepers to the ESX Server itself (via ControlCenter). Once added, you should do a rescan in VI Client so that you can see the GKs. Thereafter, you can add RDMs to the VM in question via VI Client.
Adding RDMs in VI Client is done via the Add Hardware Wizard (Settings -> Hard Disk -> Add -> Add a Raw Device Mapping> You should then select the default options especially regarding Comptability Mode (If Virtual Compatibility is selected instead of Physical Compatibility then SCSI passthrough commands will not be forwarded onto the Symmetrix).

If you are deploying Symmetrix/SDM agents on VMs, then you will have to map gatekeepers to the VMs (by configuring them as RDMs via VI Client). There is no other workaround for this at present.
In terms of the total number of gatekeepers that you will need on Symmetrix/SDM agent host (physical or virtual), then please see Knowledgebase article emc180055 for recommendations.
I don't foresee any issues with having the VMs sitting on NetApp (or any other SAN storage) on the backend as long as you have some kind of high availibility/failover solution in place.

Do you have documentation on gatekeeper creation using VI client?
The documentation seems unclear on the RDM creation.
Is there anything that needs to be done on the VC server?
For example, couldn't I just use the VC server to run the Symm/SDM agents like I would use a NBUP master standalone server if it was mapped to the Symm?
Thanks
