Symmetrix Agent and 0 gatekeepers error
Hello guys,
Here is my configuration:
Site A:
Host A - running ECC Server/console/Performance Manager/symm agent/WLA archiver/SDM
DMX4 - this DMX is discovered by Host A and collect performance data locally
Site B:
Host B - running symmetrix agent/WLA archiver/SDM
DMX3
There is an SRDF link between DMX4 and DMX3. When i first installed symmetrix agent to Host A, it discovered DMX4 as local but then it discovered DMX3 over SRDF link and started complaining that it had 0 gatekeepers.
I deployed symm agent to Host B that is locally attached to DMX3 and has 6 gatekeepers.
1) Do i need to rediscover DMX3 so it's managed by Host B and not host A ?
2) If DMX3 is managed by Host B then all performance files will be collected on Host B so the only way to retrieve them from performance Manager is to actually copy ttp/btp files to the host where Performance Manager is running ?
How do you guys handle remote symms ?
Thanks a bunch

Glad bouncing the server worked. That got the services to refresh it's view of the WLA config.
Mostly correct on the PM/WLA method.
Each WLA stores it's data locally by default, for example c:\wla_archive.
If one WLA agent dies, then the other remaining WLA will become active and start collections for the DMX in question.
Launching Perf Manager (PM) should quesry each WLA and report back with the combined data views from each WLA.
FYI - As a work around, one can map the remote Hosts c:\wla_archive as a share drive and then use "specify file" to drill down into collections for DMX dataset. This works for me when having connectivity issues and I still need to review the perf data.

Perf Manager "should" query the ECC server for all running WLA archivers and pull relevant data back to the PM. I've not done this with new 6.1 UB7 yet only back at my 6.0 sites.
If latency were an issue between both site's then that would be one reason to run WLA on Host B/Site B. I believe the ECC Scalability guide talks about best practices in regards to agent latency. I'd refer to that also.
For the DMX agents, stop each one. Delete DMX's from Console. Start Host B Symm agent and let it discover. Then do the same on Host A.
You have mapped GK's and Solutions Enabler 7.1 on both Symm agent hosts right?
If it's really stubborn, there's a way in the Solutions Enabler options file to "exclude" a Symm from discovery. Can do that for the remote one at the local site if needed.

I woud setup Symm/SDM agent on each Host A & B so that they can locally discover and manage their respective DMX
Then install only (1) WLA Archiver. Each Symm agent will send it's Perf data to the WLA.
Performance Manager actually does handle multiple WLA's across servers or sites and will query them all to populate the PM object window for datasets. So if you do keep a WLA Archiver at the 2nd site it would be ok, no manual BTP file moving is necessary.

Thanks Todd,
are there any advantages of having WLA agent on host B versus just having it on host A ? When i installed WLA on host B i noticed that it started creating ttp files locally for DMX3 (locally attached to host B) . I would open PM on host A and it would not show any stats for DMX3 that's connected to host B. I since uninstalled WLA archiver on host B, yet DMX3 still will not show up in PM on host A.
How can i change which host is the primary agent for which DMX ?
Thanks a lot

I bounced the ECC server and that seems to clear it up. Now i am seeing DMX3 show up in PM. Todd ..i am still a little confused regarding running remote WLA. So if i have WLA running on remote host, performance data gets stored on remote host and then PM server pulls that data down to its local repository ? If i do not have WLA running on remote host, symmetrix agent running on remote host sends that data directly to PM server ?
Thanks
