Should all alerts appear in ECC alert history?

I am trying to determine whether we are getting alerts as we should be within ECC. My understanding is that all alerts should be seen within the alert history.

Recently we had a dynamic spare invoked. A message appeared to MVS -

EMC9998W SSID 4800 DEV 000 DYNAMIC SPARING INVOKED, RPTD BY 4831 N(0404)
IEF196I EMC9998W SSID 4800 DEV 000 DYNAMIC SPARING INVOKED, RPTD BY
IEF196I 4831 N(0404)
IEA480E 4831,DASD,SERIOUS ALERT,MT=2105,SER=0507-03185, 139
REFCODE=E460-0000-0000,VOLSER=P9A006,ID=14,SENSE=00001B10 31328F14
33800000 00000014 07000C71 4800E460 05100200 FE000000

However I could not find any alert within ECC although we have the dynamic spare alert set within the Storage agent for Symmetrix alarm.

I can see a couple of dynamic spare alarms in the alerts history for a couple of years ago but nothing for this which occurred a few weeks ago. Not too worried about this alert as we did see it but more interested that we may be missing other alerts.

I am using the alert history to try and get a profile of workload to see when thresholds are reached.

Any ideas?

Hi,

What is the exact version of Controlcenter installed? help > About

What version of Solution Enabler installed?

Confirm the symm is fully discovered in the console?

In the left hand tree panel in the console is the alert enabled? Administration->Alert Management-> Alert Definitions-> Storage Agent for Symmetrix > Alarms > Dynamic Spare Device Invoked Alert_00 enabled (Red bell)?

Review the symevent list from the Symmetrix: From the command Prompt type symevent list > symevent.txt can you see the Dynamic Spare Device Invoked error codes/message? The symm agent would pick up the error code from the symevent and send the alert to the console for the Dynamic Spare Device Invoked alert

Any Management policy assigned to the Dynamic Spare Device Invoked alert?

Note the following for alerts with Management policies attached: (may not apply here)

For alerts to display in the ControlCenter Console, you must edit the management policy to specify a ControlCenter user who should be notified when the alert triggers. Even if in the Condition tab of the alerts to which this policy is managing has the box ticked "send to alerts view" It will not happen with out ECC user information in the Management policy.

If you have the ECC user step in the policy already make sure it has specified the ControlCenter user who should be notified when the alert triggers. (To send an alert to all ECC users, type the asterisk wilcard (*)). If you have only Notify SNMP or E-Mail steps in the policy the alerts will not be sent to the ControlCenter console view.
