Physical Disk Drive Failure Alert on ECC

Hi...

My customer found some alerts about "Physical Disk Drive Failure" on some meta devices. These alerts have severity 3 (Warning). When I try to check and found that those meta devices on the box and do not have any errors.

My question is "Why these alert messages display on ECC Console even if those meta devices are not error?" and "How can I block or stop this message to display in ECC Console?"

Thank you in advance.

I think the msgs you're seeing are the symdevs involved in a spindel error. So one of the hypers of each named symdev is actually on the failed or possibly degraded disk. I've found out that this doesn't nessesary mean there's a disk failure, but IMHO this is something which is going to happen soon (in 5% of all cases like this there actually was a disk failure. In the other cases the PSE lab "reset" the error msg and the DMX was happy again). I wouldn't disable these warnings if I were you. You won't be seeing them that much anyway.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I've found something interesting on Primus emc143766. It explains like it's the known-issues on ECC and Solution Enabler software and should have to upgrade to the latest version also. I'm not sure that this is a cause of my case or not. But the ECC at my customer's site is now version 5.2 and no any service packs installed. I think I'll try to install SP first.

We are at ECC 5.2 SP5 and these warnings are still there, even if there's no real disk failure, but like I said, sometimes the EMC PSE lab fixes errors or resets counters and you are stuck with warnings in ECC.
