Non smi-s tape libraries inside ECC (manually modify the ECC database?)

How are people putting in tape libraries into ECC, very few support smi-s. I have this nice big tape array with lots of drives hanging off of it on the SAN fabric, that would be extremely beneficial to note properly in ECC so it will work OK with the zoning policy, etc (and have storagescope, san advisor give proper reports).

I can add storage arrays manually, so I've added the physical & VTL tape libraries as HDS arrays, so reports hopefully won't be as wonky (I used to have it in as multiple hosts since you can only have 16x HBA's on a host). Which isn't too bad, but after I've added it's appropriate port (either typing it in manually or by associating it) it gives it a name "adapter " which cannot be modified. Could one have his local Oracle DBA guru go in there change it for me, or do it via some SDK? I know it would be extremely frowned upon but it's so very, very annoying. I thought it might be fixed with 6.0, but it's not; I opened up a RFE with EMC two to three years ago about this and it has never seen the light of day.
