No gatekeeper device that can be used to communicate to Symm - MVS

Occasionally I receive alerts from various Symms which indicate that "there is no gatekeeper device that can be used to communicate to the Symmetrix." The Symmetrix arrays in question are either directly attached, or attached via SRDF, to an MVS host.

According to page 3-15 in the Solutions Enabler for zOS 6.2 manual,

"The use of gatekeeper-defined devices in a Symmetrix configuration does not apply to the z/OS type platforms. However, z/OS servers do communicate to the Symmetrix system using a UCB on the first device found in the Symmetrix storage array."

If the use of gatekeeper-defined devices do not apply to z/OS platforms and there is no change to the online/offline status of any devices, why do I occasionally receive these alerts?

With z/OS (mainframe) attached Symms gatekeepers are not assigned. Unlike distributed systems the task of assigning dedicated gatekeepers is not applicable to mainframe attached Symms. Solutions Enabler will utilize as a gatekeeper the first address that is online to the mainframe. I'm curious as to why I would receive an alert if online addresses are available and SE has been running on the mainframe all week with no IPLs (system reboots).

I looked at the two Primus' that you listed and neither seem applicable to this scenerio. Thanks for the response.
