Need help with the column name in Storage scope
Hi,
Can anybody give me the definition or explaination on "Array Accessible" in terms of Storage utilization report.
Thanks.

The API guide for your particular version of controlcenter should include column definitions. It is on the control center media or you can get it via powerlink.
Here's a link to the 6.0 doc:

Here's a link to the 6.1 doc:

There used to be terminology documents but I can't find anything for 6.X. Here's a link to the 5.2 paper, it's old but EMC's definitions should have remained constant over time:

Let us know exactly what report you are looking at (and version of controlcenter/storagescope) and we can probably help you out.
I think the end result of your searching might show something like "Usable capacity of the array that is accessible to hosts." I believe this particular number is based on information gathered from the array itself as opposed to from the hosts. Other columns (such as I believe "used accessible") are calculated based on information collection from the hosts via host agents.
If someone has a 6.X terminology guide for controlcenter please link it in.

Thanks.

Physical: 63911.32
Raw Configured: 55606.83
Raw Allocated: 16564.7
Array Accesible: 14220
If you mouse over the column Array Accessible shows: "Usable capacity on the array or arrays in the group accessible to hosts." Keep in mind from the Array based report this is what the array believes is accessible to hosts not necessarily what the hosts can actually see or use. It is independent of host agents.
So based on how you define used storage and how careful you are to avoid misconfigured storage this might be an accurate column for you to consider.
Sometimes reporting is not quite as simple as people think. For instance, how do you define unused storage? Or alternatively if you compare what is really in use within an oracle database compared to what a hard drive says on the label. Your manager wants to know why he bought XXX amount of storage and you're only backing up YYY yet you're asking for additional storage to be purchased.
Here's the numbers I collected for one manager when he asked why we needed another clariion when he just bought 80TB and the DBAs told him we were only backing up 13TB.
- marketing number vs real number
- array formatting overhead
- hot spares
- not in a raid group
- raid protection in a raid group
- in a raid group not bound as a lun
- bound as a lun but not in a storagegroup
- in a storagegroup but host doesn't see it
- host sees it but not in veritas
- in veritas but not in a volume group
- in a volume group but not in a volume
- in a volume but not in a filesystem
- in a filesystem but not in use by oracle
- pre-allocated by oracle but not actually used
- "used" within oracle but not requiring backup (temp tablespaces, etc)
Many of these areas are attributed to misconfiguration and once a lot of that was cleaned up the numbers got better but there are still a lot of them that are valid and make up a lot of the difference in what the sales order said vs what was really used. For instance, marketing number differences don't seem like much but the 146GB drives were equating to something like ~133GB uable after clariion overhead. Take 13GB times a hundred drives and all of a sudden that's a lot of "missing disk."
Good luck

Is there an exact difference between Arrays. Accessable and Arrays: Raw Allocated

From the previous post: Is there an exact difference between Arrays: Accessible and Arrays: Raw Allocated
The differences are:
1. Array accessible are the sum of all array luns accessed by hosts. The luns have to be lun masked, mapped, and in the same zone and having path to the hosts. Array allocated are the sum of all array allocated luns. The luns are lun masked and mapped, but are not necessarily zoned or having path to the hosts.
2. Another difference is that Raw Allocated includes usable capacity and any capacity defined by the raid protection level for the devices, but Accessible only includes usable capacity not raid protection.
