Name in IONIX (SMARTS) showing as IP address in Console
Hi,,
I have an issue that is starting to bug me now. I have various customer domains setup to reciver traps from directly from devices and also from Kiwi Syslog servers. the traps vai Kiwi are being shown in the console as IP address rather than hostname in the Name Column.
Firstly anyone have any ideas on why this is happening. BTW DSN is working fine. I can run a nslookup form the AM server to the device IP address and it resolves.
Our system setup is not straight forward but it is working for all other accounts.
My second question is, how does SMARTS resolve the IP address in the alert to a hosntname? In ohter words when I look at the name column the alerts have a hosntmae for each device. How is this name colum populated ? It the IP address in the trap compared against what have already been discovered and it uses the hostname stored? Or does smarts nip off and run a DNS query agains the ip address in the alert ?
BTW if I find use find system under global manager for the IP address that is appearing as the Name in the console the result comes back with the DNS name listed.
Thanks.

Hi,
which release ? Are you using OI for this trap integration ? If so, then the issue is probably that your kiwi syslog servers are not managed by the IP Domain Manager. The trap processing ASL script (within OI) is looking for the device (in OI) using the IP address. If the IP DM does not monitor the device, then OI doesn't know it and a default one (Host:: ) is created. If the device is in IP, then OI knows it (OI should be configure for this), and the right object will be used.
Hope this helps,
