is it supported to run ecc 6.1 patch bundle3 w/5.1 master and host agents?

recently migrated from 5.2 to 6.1 EMC control center.

proceeded to upgrade the master/host agents in our hp server env....when I encountered the following issues:

all 2540 segments, are associated w/the ecc master agent

and

all 6426 segments are associated with the ecc host agent.

ecc v5.2 never did this :(

The number of segments are causing my Data Protector Backups to fail - memory allocation errors.

Agents have been DEACTIVATED.

After working w/support, I am now begining to wonder If I am the only hpux customer running 6.1

all input would be appreciated...

emc support says no.

6.1 does not support 5.2 agents :(

agents will remain disabled, until EMC support can address memory segmentation issue...

So, am I correct in understanding that the real root of your issue isn't a desire to run old agents with a new server, but getting the CC 6.1 agents working on your HPUX host(s)?

If so, what version (patch level) of agent are you installing, and what version of HPUX are you running?

we run 11.11 and 11.31 servers.
emcgrabs have been provided to EMC support, and a few patches have been identified and applied.

I have been able to adjust kernel parameters, to get Data Protector to play nice w/active ecc agents.
With the kernel change however, my memory segments have now grown to over 130...

The root of the issue is the amount of memory segments (directly associated w/the ecc 6.1 agents).
I did encounter an issue with an oracle database, but unfortunately I am unable to reproduce the issue :(

You may notice that the ecc memory segments have a "D" flag.

from the ipcs man page, the "D" flag:
The associated shared memory segment has been removed.
It will disappear when the last process attached to the segment detaches it.

I question weather the agent process is cleaning up after itself correctly.

EMCsupport says they also see these segments in their labs, but don't encounter any adverse affects.
I'm afraid I'm going to need more reassurances then that, before I introduce 100+ memory segments onto my production boxes...

Apparently the excessive memory segment issues are associated with Libraries provided by a 3rd party company.

The EMC engineers are actively working with this company, but unfortunately NO time frame can be provided as to when the issue will be corrected.

I have verified that these issues are not encountered in the previous version of ECC, V6.0.
