EMC Control Center Licenses

Hi,

I am new to ECC and currently looking into the product details, advantages etc.. However, I am little confused about the types of  licenses and what can I manage using different modules.

Environment Details:

CLARiiON CX-38 0 & CX 300

Brocade FC switches

Windows 2003/2008 servers

MS SQL databases

EMC Networker

I understood the concept for ECC master server and host agents,

Questions:

[1] Which prduct key do I need to manage CLARiiON arrays.

[2] Is SAN manager included with ECC ? Does SAN manager support topology view, alerts, fabric management, perfromance monitoring etc ?

[3] What is the advantage of storage scope ?

[4] What module is needed for managing sql DB ?

Please advice.

Hi,

1) You need the Clariion license key in order to deploy the Storage Agent for Clariion.  This agent then allows you to discover & manage Clariion arrays.

2) SAN Manager is not automatically bundled with the base ControlCenter kit - the SAN Manager license will allow the following once enabled:

Provides deployment, discovery, monitoring for:

  • Storage Agent for Symmetrix
  • Symmetrix SDM Agent

Provides deployment and full functionality for:

  • Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent

Provides switch capability for:

  • SMI-S Agent

Enables these features and applications:

  • Topology View
  • LUN Masking
  • Switch Zoning

3) EMC ControlCenter StorageScope 6.1 provides a variety of features (snapshots, views, built-in and custom reports, database queries) to help you:

  • Assess your current storage environment
  • Determine future storage needs based on historical usage and trending reports
  • Reclaim unused or under utilized storage resources

4) The Application Agents license is required in order to deploy the Common Mapping Agent.  The CMA allows you to discover SQL Servers.
