ECC Reports for Cluster
Hello,
Hope many of you have noticed this:
For a Cluster with two nodes, the number of LUNS allocated are counted twice, by ECC Reports. For e.g, if the same 5 LUNs are allocated to both nodes of a Cluster, then the total number of LUNs allocated are counted as 10, instead of 5, although ECC can see the same SymmDEV# for those 5 LUNs.
This produces incorrect reports for Storage Utilization. Any body has suggestions on how to get the correct reports in this case ?

In ECC we created folders for each site. In each site we created folders for each cluster. In storage scope you can see these folders. We exported the info to an excel sheet each month and manually eliminated the double calculated storage.
I know this isn't exactly what you mean, but that how we did it.
And what if you have 2 or more sites ? Suppose you have SRDF running, but the LUN's on the DR site don't have hosts attached to those R2's yet ? That storage is used, but it doesn't show up anywhere !
On the other hand: if you use SRDF and you have a cluster on each site the report is absolutely correct, since the LUN's of each host are on different arrays.

1. In 5.2, it is in array report or sts_array in STSAPI. Find the array that allocates those 5 luns and check the column st_allocdevcnt. It should show 5 not 10.
2. If you put both clustered nodes into a group, you can also check host by group report, the total accessible capacity at group level should only include 5 luns.
3. In 6.0, it is in array report or query builder. In query builder, run built-in query 'Array Utilization Details'. Check the column '# Accessible Luns', 'Raw Allocated(KB)' and 'Accessible (KB)', they should all show 5 or sum of capacity for those 5 luns, not 10 luns.
4. If you put those clustered nodes into a group, in 6.0, check host by group built-in reports, you should see only 5 luns are included in array accessible capacity.

I use ECC 5.2 and in StorageScope , Hosts -->Allocation Summary Report, I see the same qty. of LUNS appear in the #Allocated Devices Column for each node in the Cluster, which is reflected in the "Totals" also at the bottom of the report.
as shown below:
Host Operating System # Allocated Devices
==== ============= ==============
Node1 Windows 5
Node2 Windows 5
Totals(2) 10
=======================================
Currently there are no groups created for these nodes...Do you suggest we need to create a group for these nodes..May be I miss something here..

On each node of the cluster you see 5 LUN's, so in the end all LUN's on all nodes are counted and the customer will be billed for 2 x 5 LUN's while in fact these are the same 5 LUN's counted twice.
That's how we did it in the end: create folders (groups) and place hosts in there, so we can use this in StorageScope.

To do chargeback for multiple hosts, you need to create user defined group in ECC console, put the hosts into the group, then run host by group or host chargeback report. You should be able to get correct number.

In STS UB8 a new feature has been introduced called "Shared Storage" where in the application automatically detects hosts, which are sharing common devices. Through the application you can then, choose to distribute the shared capacity to one host or equally amongst the hosts in a cluster. From a array perspective you will be able to find out how much of the host allocated capacity is shared as well. I have attached some screenshots which will give you a preview of what is being made available. To obtain this information, it is not necessary for one to add hosts part of a cluster into a user defined group, neither is it dependent on a particular cluster software such as Veritas or MCS being available on the Hosts.
