Hi Osama,

The latest ControlCenter version is 6.0. It was released in June '07. It is available via Software Refresh or New Purchase only. However, it is not available for Download on Powerlink.

Here is some further information on the Refresh Request Utility (this is the recommended method of obtaining CC 6.0):

For the purpose of simplifying and expediting the Refresh Request Process for existing EMC ControlCenter 5.2 users upgrading to EMC ControlCenter 6.0, a ControlCenter Refresh Request Utility (RRU) is now available. The Refresh Request Utility can be used to collect refresh contact , site license, and managed capacity information for transmission to EMC via FTP or email.
Use of the EMC Refresh Request Utility is highly recommended but not required when requesting ControlCenter 6.0 refreshes.

This utility is currently available on Powerlink http://powerlink.emc.com in the Downloads and Patches section of both ControlCenter 5.2 and 6.0 along with technical notes on the use of the tool.

I know this was answered in April, but do you have any information on ECC 6.1? I heard that it might be GA'd in July and will have support for VMWare. My customer is very interested in this and is trying to determine if they should wait for 6.1 or push forward with 6.0 first.

Also, it would be good to know if the 6.1 version requires any improvement in the hardware that is supposed to support it. I convinced the customer to get a new infrastructure since the 5.2 version servers were woefully underpowered, and I want to avoid having 6.1 servers that are underpowered at the gitgo.

Thanks.

The latest I have from my inside source is that 6.1 will likely GA at the end of July. This might still vary by a week or two, but that is the internal date they are throwing around.

Personally I'm still waiting for an early version of the release notes so I can't tell you how difficult the upgrade will be. I would tend to go ahead with planning for 6.0 and if 6.1 is available in time then it should be too hard to do the implementation direct to that version.

For hardware compatibility I don't expect to see any major changes from the requirements for 6.0, so you should be able to check the Performance and Scalability papers to get details on what will be required.

Trey,

CC 6.1 is still targeted for a mid-July release date. Final confirmation on the official GA date should be known in the next week or so.

There will be no significant changes re hardward requirements in 6.1. The infrastructure will still be supported Win 2000 (32-bit) & Win 2003 (32 and 64-bit). Min RAM and CPU should be the same as 6.0 also.

There will be upgrade paths to 6.1 from 5.2 SP4, 5.2 SP5 and 6.0. The upgrade paths for 5.2 pre-SP4 versions of ControlCenter are not supported as a direct upgrade to 6.1. You must first upgrade to 6.0 and then to 6.1. All of this will be fully documented in the official 6.1 Upgrade Guide which will be posted on Powerlink with all the other docs at GA date.

Re VMware ESX in ControlCenter - 6.0 is already capable of discovering and monitoring ESX Servers. 6.1 will have more of the same as well as the ability for the CC VMware agent to be able to discover ESX Servers with read-only privileges (it had to be an ESX admin user in 6.0 prior to the release of HF4203).

Any news on the GA date of ECC 6.1? And will it have NPIV support?

Ardvdw,

CC 6.1 is due to be released tomorrow, July 18.

NPIV is a target for the next version after 6.1 - this release is provisionally due out before the end of this year.

Fred,

The 6.1 Release Notes (and all the other 6.1 documentation) are due to be posted on Powerlink sometime tomorrow.

Re Knowledgebase article emc184963 - ControlCenter 6.0: After upgrade to ControlCenter 6.0, hypers are listed in the physical storage view randomly rather than in any specific order." - this is fixed in CC 6.1.

If we have a pre SP4 release wouldn't another path to upgrade be upgrading to SP4/5 staying with ECC5.2 and then go direct to ECC6.1...essentially skipping 6.0 all together?

I've hear that the upgrade from ECC6.0 to 6.1 can be up to 8hrs each site. This seems too lengthy.

Yes, yotta, upgrading a pre-SP4 release to SP4/5 and then upgrading that to 6.1 is fully supported.

I certainly have not heard of any 6.0 to 6.1 upgrade taking up to 8 hours. This sounds way too long - 2/3 hours would be the longest that I have seen in the past (for any CC upgrade, not just 6.1).

I guess it depends a lot on your environment.

In our case we have McData switches and have to replace all our instances of DSM-Connect and FibreZone Bridge with the SMI providers for EOS and FOS, then rediscover all our fabrics. This alone is probably going to add 4-6 hours to my upgrade.

I'm counting on most of a week to get everything upgraded, converted, and fine tuned again (Alerting, DCPs, etc.)

Seamus,

in ECC6.1 is a new feature for Sym management and 73 microcode
with the following not supported using SE 6.5.0: VProvis, thin to thin, clone and SRDF.

When is thin to thin SRDF and clone support going to be available in what version of SE is it slated

I'm especially interested in using DMX3/4 SRDF cascade in a Brocade switch environment.

thanks

Hi yotta,

Let me check when ControlCenter/Solutions Enabler will support Virtual Provisioning - Clone Support (Thin device to thin device). I'll speak with the relevant Product Management/Engineering team and then post back here when I have an answer.
