ECC 6.1 Single server installation
Hello guys,
I have one server where I would like to install all components of ECC (StorageScope, Performance Manager and all the repositories). This server primary job will be collecting performance data from DMX3/4 and possibly V-Max. This server has direct connectivity to DMX3/DMX4. My questions are:
1) One page 220 of "Planning and Installation guide vol 1" it mentions that "There cannot be any ControlCenter agents on hosts where infrastructure components reside". So what does it mean ? I was going to install storage agent on the ECC server itself so it can collect performance data for DMX3/4 and then install storage agent on remote host that has direct connectivity to V-Max.
2) Can i install ECC to internal drive on this server but then later on point StorageScope and Performance Manager repositories to another drive ?
3) Do i need to install Solutions Enabler on this server before i install ECC ? On the server that has connectivity to V-Max, do i install Solutions Enabler manually or deploy MRLK from ECC server ?
I appologize if these have been answered before but i wanted to clarify these after reading the planning guide.
Thanks

Hey dynamox,
For your first question, I guess we'll have to get the official word from one of the engineers on this. I can't see why it wouldn't work for a single server setup, but there may be a technical reason. Do you have another host with direct connectivity that you could use? Even a VM with some gatekeepers passed through as RDM would do the job.
For the second question, you could make this much easier by making sure you install to seperate volumes/partitions on the internal drives. That way you can copy the data and rename the partition letters later so the OS and app thinks you are using the same drive, but you are really on whatever additional capacity you provisioned.
For the last one, if you CAN put the agent on the host, you will need SE installed there, but it doesn't have to be before ECC. Just before you try to push the Symm Agent. Personally I prefer to install ECC manually (for your question about the other host with VMax connectivity). You get more control over what actually gets installed if you do it manually, and you can go with the latest version (if that's what you want) without waiting for the MRLK for it.
Hope this helps

Thanks Allen,
i installed all components on the same host, so for so good ..no issues. I installed ECC to a SAN attached drive (DMX4 concat meta). I am glad i did as ttp and btp files are eating space pretty fast even with wla revolving dcp disabled. I did not get replies to this thread for a while so i decided to install SE manually on both ECC server and remote host and like you said no issues for 2 weeks now.
