Hi,
ControlCenter 6.1 supports a direct upgrade path from 6.0. However, some agents have been deprecated, alerts have been added, removed, and modified, default data collection policies (DCPs) have changed, and some historical data may no longer be relevant or supported.
EMC recommends upgrading your existing pre-6.1 ControlCenter environment as opposed to completing a fresh installation. However, if you choose to do a fresh install of a ControlCenter 6.1 infrastructure in your existing ControlCenter environment, and then intend to upgrade your pre-6.1 agents.
There are additional steps required to enable the discovery and upgrading of the existing agents.

CAUTION
If you do a fresh installation, your StorageScope history and trending data will be lost. If you want to preserve this data, you must do an Upgrade.

Hello
I thought I might be able to offer some specific answers in regards to the 6.0 Solaris agents. If you do not upgrade the 6.0 agents to 6.1 they should continue to function but there are a few drawbacks. First you will not benifit from the added security provided by SSL or the enhanced alerting in 6.1. Second 6.0 is now out of primary support. While we offer best effort if there is an issue that requires a code change of any kind you will be required to upgrade to 6.1. Does this answer your questions?

Is the 6.0 -> 6.1 upgrade carried under the same license or do yo have to purchase additional licenses? I need to upgrade Brocade switches and that will kill my CC 6.0 environment.

Hi,
there are different license for 6.0 and 6.1. I had to contact licensing@emc.com to get "new" 6.1. Just tell them to ship your license to you.
I got them by mail... :-)

Hello Folks,
I am in the process of upgrading my ECC environment 6.0 to 6.1. Are there any lessons learned from doing this upgrade, plus any helpful hints would also be greatly appreciated.

Hi Joe,
Before going ahead with the upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 run the ControlCenter Environment Checker (link to tool available here https://support.emc.com/products/ControlCenter) and review the audit report to ensure you are ready to upgrade to 6.1" This utility is a diagnostic tool intended to help in determine whether the existing ControlCenter 6.0 to 6.1 environment is ready to be upgraded to the next higher version. The purpose of this tool is to list out any potential issues that could occur while upgrading ControlCenter." If the audit report shows any fatal errors open an SR with Support for them to be reviewed/fixed before the upgrade.
Review the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Upgrade Guide page 61 to 108. Page 70 to 74 has Upgrade Prerequisites.
After installing/upgrading to ControlCenter to 6.1 A04 (ub4) before installing the upgrade bundle (latest is UB9) run the ControlCenter Environment Checker again to ensure all is ok.
Review the "UB* NEED to Know" document and the readme file "Update Bundle*_Readme" which comes with the Update Bundle download to install the latest Update Bundle correctly.
Regards
Conor
