as400 type devices and metavolumes
is it possible to create a metavolume using as400 type hypers?
I don't have the option in SMC and when trying to create in ControlCenter it errors out.
'the device size setting is not compatible with the emulation type or 32k compatibility mode'

Can you check Knowledgebase article emc137177? It's pretty comprehensive and hopefully will point you in the right direction re this issue...

I have 4.15GB devices in AS400 emulation and I am trying to either stripe or concatenate 8 together to create a larger metavolume.
We have a DMX2000.
Is the primus case suggesting that I have exceeded the allowable number of cylinders for the request?

I was able to get in contact with an AS/400 expert earlier and I received the following response to your query:
---------------------------
Currently all disk drives presented to the AS/400 or iSeries platform have a fixed size. Meaning customers cannot choose any size they wish for storage. Today the more common sizes are 17.5, 35, 70 and 140GB. Though there are smaller and larger sizes. Currently the smallest size, the 8.5GB, is the last logical device that could be created within the Symmetrix without using hyper/Meta volumes.
From the 17.5GB on up all logical volumes are created using Meta volumes and all are created using a 2-cyl stripe depth. I've attached a PRIMUS, emc165804,
which shows the standard geometry for some of the logical devices we would present to the iSeries. As you can see each of these if configured using Meta volumes. Engineering does allow deviation from the standard geometry
but the total cylinder count must always be the correct size for a specific emulation. See example at the bottom of emc165804.
This is how these volumes are created in the bin file. I have not tried to create them through Control Center or SMC. If assistance is needed creating the volumes through either of these options you will have to engage
the appropriate group. Let me know if this is clear or if you have any additional questions.
----------------------------
Please see the Knowledgebase article emc165804 which is referenced by my colleague. If you need more info feel free to reply; otherwise if more thorough investigation is required then it might be a good idea to open a Service Request so that we can get the appropriate resource to answer your questions.

I currently have 8930cyl devices. Grouping 4 of them would give me 35720, which matches the Primus. Grouping 8 would only give me 71440cyl where I need 71568cyl so I guess that's why the 8member meta failed.
Funny thing, SMC won't let me create the meta using the AS400 emulation devices where ECC will - but SMC gives me the flag setting for the AS400 Emulation on the devices whereas ECC doesn't.
