Anybody successfully pushed out Sol Enabler 7.1.1 using UB8 and MRLK

I upgraded our infrastructure to UB8 today and also loaded CC_4843 which is SE MRLK 7.1.1.

Then I picked out my 21 SE servers and right click, agents, apply patch and selected patch SE 7.1.0 to 7.1.1

All these tasks went through and reported success but when I log onto a server it's still 7.1.0

Before I logged on to check the version, I tried pushing out the updated SYMM/SDM agents which failed pre-reqs due to SE being downrev at 7.1.0

But heres the even stranger thing - if I select a host and say update SE/SYMM and SDM agent - it happily passes pre-checks, reports back that it's upgraded SE, SYMM & SDM but when I check all it's actually done is update SYMM/SDM agents and left SE at 7.1.0 which presumably is now an un-supported config.

Hi Martyn

This problem can occur when there are multiple instances of SE installed on the hosts in question.  So to begin with, try uninstalling all SE instances on each host and then push out SE via ECC again.

I hope this resolves your issue.

Thanks Louie

I'll give that a go on one of the servers, but isn't the whole point of having the option in ECC Console to Apply Patch to avoid having to visit xx numbers of servers to manually perform the work.

Also by de-installing / re-installing any licences / options files will need copying away first / resetting up.

Hi Martyn,

Your are absolutely right, however it is not clear to me at this stage where the root cause lies.

So if you believe that your environment was consistent with respect to the SE and Symm/SDM agent installations, then I encourage you to raise a case with EMC support to formally report it as a possible ECC bug.  There are currently no such cases being investigated.

I had the same exact issue here.  I upgraded to ECC 6.1.0.8.470 (or whatever it was when I completed the UB8 patch), then, upgraded the Symm/SDM agents and MRLK SE 7.1.1.  Everything came back as successful, but, the Symm/SDM agents would not start.  When I went to the server to check the version, it still reported the older SE version.  After I uninstalled the old SE, then, ran the ECC install of SE, the Symm/SDM agents came online, no problem.

I'm not sure if this is directly related or not, but in the past I haven't bothered trying to get ControlCenter to upgrade the SE implementations on my Agent hosts because every time I try to upgrade it would fail unless I manually stopped the SE services on the host itself. But in those cases it would tell me it failed. I wonder if the issues are at least related to the same root.

I just experienced the same issue here. Upgraded to ECC 6.1.0.8.470 (UB8 from UB7). Then added Patch 4841 (SYMM/SDM Agent update) and SE 7.1.1 MRLK to the ECC Repository.  When I then tried to 'Apply Patch' to the host running SE 7.1.0, SYMM & SDM Agents (as well as Host, FCC & Clariion agents)to update, the task came back as successful, however SE was still running 7.1.0 and my Host and FCC Agent stayed inactive at the old version. So I indeed uninstalled SE 7.1.0 using Add/Remove Programs (and cleared out the SYMAPI and SYMCLI directories) and rebooted the host. Then 'Installed' SE 7.1.1 via ECC which installed the correct version with my SYMM/SDM agents active. I then had to uninstall the Host and FCC Agent, reboot and Install the Host and FCC Agent on this host to resolve, with a final reboot needed as an odd 'Root' Agent appeared in ECC for my host(never seen this before). The reboot cleared this and started all my agents, sorted.
