Alignment offset on windows partitions

I am looking for a way to create a report that lists All the MisAligned filesystem on all Windows hosts in my environment.

I know I can individually do it for each server but wanted to find out if it is possible through ECC or StorageScope etc...

This thread will move itself in ECC area of our forums ... where it's supposed to receive better answers :D

Unless someone knows how to dig some additional data out of StorageScope, I don't think you are going to get this data from ControlCenter. I have not seen anything that would indicate the data collection goes this deep on the host level to identify file system alignment.

Personally I would look at scripting something to go out and run reports on each host and forward them back to a central location for analysis.

Go to "Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Grab Utilities".
Run "EMCReports" and the zip that's created can be run through a tool called HEAT, which you can find at "Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Environment Analysis Tools > Host Environment Analysis Tool (HEAT)".

You'll get an html in your mailbox for each emcreports zipfile you enter and in this webpage (the html file) you will see whether or not a filesystem is alligned or not.

Actually this is what I found...

- Run the EMCReports on the Hosts.
- Look for sectorinspector.txt file
- In this file look for the SAN disk ( Something like \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE6 )
- There would be a field called "RELATIVE" in Master Boot Record
- If the number in this field is completely divisible by 32 or 64 then your partitions are aligned otherwise not.

Also DISKPART output ( list partition ) would also have the similar information

Did you have a chance to give it a try yet ? Personally I think it's the easiest way to check misalignment ! ;)

Oh, I never dug into the zip file itself. I just uploaded it to EMC and the html file I got back reveils much more than just misalignment :)
