Agent question on ESX 3i.

Does anyone know if we can install agents on ESX 3i hosts? Server resource doesn't think so because we do not have a server console for this customer. Have about 17 ESX hosts with no agent running for ECC. Any help would be appreciated.

ESX hosts aren't monitored by running an agent directly on them. The VMware agent is a proxy agent which runs on another host and talks to discovered ESX hosts through the CIM interface (HTTP or HTTPS). I seem to remember there being some issue discovering ESX 3i servers though. We don't have any 3i in our environment so I'm not sure off the top of my head if they are discoverable now or not. Have a look in the Support Matrix for confirmation of compatibility, then look at the Planning and Installation Guide (volume 1) for details on deploying and discovering with the VMware agent.

ESXi does not have a console, and therefore you cannot install any type of agent on it, ECC, Navisphere, etc...
