XPS 8700 Optical Drive Not Showing up on desktop
My Dell XPS 8700 has an optical drive which I have used about five times over the last year (since I received my new machine). Now, 7 days out of warranty, I decided to use it but can't find it on my desktop. The support person told me it may be registry corruption or the drive has failed. In either case, I would prefer trying to fix it first as opposed to paying another $238 (almost half the price of the machine) for another year of warranty coverage.
Can anyone provide a suggestion for troubleshooting the registry corruption? I'm not too skilled at this, but willing to try what is necessary to save some $$$.

Solved the problem. Dell support sent me to support pages, typed in a search, found some info on laptops with problem (not desktops), then was directed to a Microsoft page that ran a fix for Windows not showing the driver and it suddenly showed up.
